I've been using a pair of Zippo hand warmers lately, and now want a way to carry an extra two ounces of lighter fluid. Is there anything particularly dangerous about carrying lighter fluid in a well marked plastic bottle. Ronsonol lighter fluid comes in a plastic bottle. The bottle is a "Recycle 3."

Don't allow me to spontaneously combust. Give me some advice.

I've seen these before. I think they hold enough for one fill of one hand warmer. That means I'd need at least two bottles. At $15 each, that's a bit much. I can get a small plastic bottle for cheap or free. That's why I'm hoping for plastic.

Are you happy with the Zippo hand wamers? I've been considering them for some time.

The safest alternative would probably be a small plastic bottle of lighter fluid, it's more than 2 ounces, but they're not very big and are safe. 7-11 carries them.

I would try using one of those little booze bottles like the one's they sell you on the plane for mixing drinks.

That looks like the old Jon-E hand warmer. It's a catalytic heater - the wick glows a bit - you light it then blow it out any flame to start it. A coleman blackcat is a larger catalytic heater.

If you go to ebay and search for the terms plastic bottle lid, you'll find bottles with various sizes (1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8 oz) and lids (snap-top, disc-top, twist-top etc.). Good Luck!

The Zippo hand warmers are great--once you figure them out. Until I did, sometimes they'd get hot, and sometimes just barely warm. I've only had them since Christmas, and so far, this is what works: Hold the lighter to the burner for a full ten count, moving the flame around so that all of the burner glows. Then put the hand warmer in your shirt or pocket immediately. If it's allowed to cool, it seems like it never gets warm again. So far, using it as described above, the Zippo warmers are great. I get almost 20-22 hours of heat from a complete fill up.

There is no open flame, and nothing to blow out after lighting.

Nalgene makes these small bottles in various sizes. I do believe they have 2oz bottles. Not too sure about how it will react with lighter fluid. I'll try it on one of my 1oz bottles later.

Is the fluid that the zippo heater uses the same as the lighters? I think the Jon-E's use their own fluid, which smells the same to me - naptha.

Yes, it's basically all naphtha. Thats why I went ahead and bought a large can of naphtha instead of zippo fluid. One can argue that maybe some are more refined than others but the hardware stuff has yet to fail me. Cheaper too, especially if your going to be using it with the handwarmers. Zippos new formula apparently is different in some way and smells less like naphtha but I have yet to try the stuff out myself.

But yea, the bottles seems fine.

I'm glad to hear they work, I love Nalgene and all the different products they have. Thanks for checking it out!

I think the bottles from Keep2go may be just what you want, they're certainly innovative. Google Keep2go and see for yourself. Hope this helps.

Oops!

The first time I tried to post I got a 'Server Busy, Try Again Later' message.

Now I find it double posted me!
