Plastic coated wire: uses????

Being a "packrat" by nature, I saved an unusual item from my sons Xmas packages. There were several pieces of plastic coated wire holding stuffed animals upright in the boxes. They vary in length from 4" to 14".

I thought I could coil them up and put them in a kit or two.

Besides snares and binding objects, could you think of some other uses for these plastic coated wires?

Any input greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Plainsman,

You could build a permanent 'pocket needle-magnetizer device' using it as a coil attached to a replacable battery. It would come handy to magnetize needles and other stuff for compass when you are lost. Its only drawback is that you should carry it on you too (but hey, it can replace your compass).

On the more serious side, you can improvise pot handles (the plastic might insulate better if does not melt).

Also, a practical use of any wire (learnt in army where it was forbidden): as 'technical thread' to fix easy-to-lose buttons permanently on field jackets and BDUs.

Otherwise it might fulfill all different use of a wire discussed elsewhere.

Sorry, but no deep thoughts can arise after a Christmas turkey....

Best,

HM

Plainsman,

I had the exact same thought! Man they really pack those toys now days!

Other uses: fishing leader for sharp toothed prey (snapping turtles), wrapping the bottom of hiking staffs, wrapping handle of knife/spear/staff for grip, pack/gear repairs, pot handles, lashing shelter limbs, etc.

Good to see that survivalist minds think alike
