Does anyone know where to get plastic material for handles and what is a good material? I have been making some nice wood handles but want to find a good plastic that takes abuse and doesn't always have to look pretty.
Thanks

Sorry I can't answer your question, but could you post some pics of your wood handles? Just interested, i've always wanted to make one.

might try masecraft or texas knifemakers, i know they both carry man made materials... definitely post some picts:D

Same question for rubber handles!

It seems like all custom handlemakers only want to make handles for "display case queens," not user knives. :thumbdn:

I'd love to be able to replace some of my wood handles with something rubber, like Packmayr or Hogue pistol grips.

Masecraft may be a good source. I recall handling a strait knife made with transparent lucite handles in the form of a misty light sea moss color. Not exactly plastic. But real tough from what I understand.

A friend of mine rehandled his machete with a white plastic cuttingboard he got at the thrift shop. looks ugly, But it works well. Thats some tough stuff.

If you can get to any of the major knife shows there are always tables where handle materials are available. Get a copy of Blade magazine and look at their show calendar to find one near you. Here's the online version, which for some reason starts w/ July.http://www.blademag.com/showcalendar/

But there are several big shows before July--see Blade Mag, or maybe someone knows of a better on-line show schedule.

If you go to a show you can see the material before you buy.
