880 euros ($957) for a plastic helmet??? When I was a kid I had a plastic helmet that looked just like that. It came with a breastplate, shield, and sword. I don't know what it cost but I'm sure it wasn't any 880 euros ($957). It didn't come with feathers but I bet that one doesn't either.

IMO it's not the helmet, it's the built-in A/C.

The Swiss Guards just finished replacing their armor. Johann and Georg Schmidberger got a contract in 2009 to replace 80 suits of armor @ 10 per year. Nice slide show:

The Gala Uniform with armor is worn on full dress occasions. Halbardier Guardsman carry halberds and backswords, their officers carry rapiers.

The undercover uniform is worn on security duty, defending the pope and cardinals.

Guardsmen and officers on security duty carry Sig P220 and Glock 19 pistols, and the Hecker & Koch MP7 personal defense weapon. They also use Sig SG550 series assault rifles in various configurations. This Glock pistol bears the Vatican's arsenal markings:

The Swiss Guards are assisted by the Gendarmerie Corps of Vatican City State.

Think of the Gendarmes and the Swiss Guards as the Capital Police and the Secret Service Protective Division, but on a much smaller scale — about 130 men in each. The Gendarmerie Corp is armed with Glock pistols and Beretta and Hecker & Koch submachine guns. Their tactical teams use the Bushmaster Carbon 15 lightweight 5.56mm pistol and Hecker & Koch FABARM FP6 shotguns.

And a whole lot of them are recruited out of Swiss Special Forces, Parachute Regiments and Army Recon (Essentially the Swiss Counterparts of Green Berets, Rangers and Force Recon). We had an extensive talk about it in politics class when I proposed that Germany invades the Vatican when their head of state died and it would be a good way to fund the failing Bundeswehr Equipment.
