Alright, tried posting this in the old thread and even tried having Bawanna post, but for some reason BF doesn't wanna let me or anyone update the old thread. So, here's a new one. I'm struggling to get this posted still. Doesn't seem to wanna let me include any pictures at all...gonna try breaking up the post.

Here's a link to the old thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1321362-The-Plastic-Pants-Project

This project was dormant for a while due to the health issues with snakes as well as other general life events, but I am happy to report that the sheaths are now done and on their way back to Cul, along with all the beautiful knives he sent me. I was able to finish last week, but am just now finding a free moment to update this thread.

Edit: Yayy got it to work!

The Western sheath was pretty easy to complete, once I realized there was in fact room to drill holes all the way up the spine. After that it was just a final clean-up of the edges. I added a retention adjustment screw which will take the sheath from perfect EDC security with the screw out or loose, all the way to near paratrooper securedness. There's a satisfying "click" as you resheath the knife. The IWB loops are set up more like standard belt loops, currently positioned to carry the blade at a slight angle. I was able to get the knife to ride fairly close to my torso, though I suspect vertical carry might be the way to go.

Next I moved to the Bowie. My phone was dead and charging for most of this, so there aren't as many pics as I would like, but that's OK. I think y'all got the idea by now.

Long story short, 4 attempts and an hour later and I finally got a usable press.

And by "usable" I mean "freakin perfect"

After that was all drilled and riveted, it was time for the next hard part: the clip plate. First step is to mold a piece of kydex that will go up and over the bump of the handle, have a flat piece where the clip will sit, and also, ideally, make the knife sit relatively flat against the body. Basically i have a couple pieces of scrap plexi and acrylic that I have arranged so that there will be a shaped piece of kydex that also sits flush with the holes. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but it was just a bunch of trial and error when I made mine, then I was smart enough to keep the little jig.

After the initial form, there's a whole lot of tweaking and adjusting little parts with the heat gun, then eventually you can mark and drill holes. This is my first time attaching the plate after drilling. Got lucky, it lines up great. You can see the line I drew to mark where the top of the clip will be.

This is from the front.

I didn't take pics of the last step, but it essentially involves creating two slots in the plate for the clip to sit in. I use a dremel with a router bit for that. It can be a little tricky to get the spacing just right so the clip doesn't wiggle around at all, but I was able to pull it off on this one. You can sometimes get the clip to click into place, which I did in this case, and then attaching the plate to the sheath also holds the clip in position.

Here's the Bowie sheath compared to mine. Mine is the one with the worn rivets ;) haha and also the longer handle. Didn't put a retention screw on this one like on mine because, well, the retention is better already. If anything, it's on the tight side. Drew a bunch of times, always came out fast and easy with the sheath still attached to my belt.

And it rides perfectly. Didn't even clip my funny bone like mine does!

Tracking says it was delivered yesterday, so here's hoping you like the sheaths Cul!

I have that same air conditioner on a chair like that out in my shop. Just thought I'd mention that.

Nice work. After a nights rest I don't hate computers quite as bad as last night but still not my favorite thing.

Sorry I failed you in my feeble efforts. You done good, never thought about a new thread.

Hahaha Bawanna, chairs make for great storage. You can put stuff on em and even under em sometimes. That's the ACs winter home.

Thanks BB! Can't wait to see that one :) I just finished up a sheath for the Kitchen knife/Kitchen Camp Bowie, which is about the same size as the AKBs, actually a touch bigger than mine.

Just got back from vacay, and it's on my porch. Safe and sound. I'll open it in a few days, but by the pics, they look great! Thanks for all of the work you put into the projects.

You sir are a patient man Mr. Cul. I'd be ripping the door off the hinges and tearing cardboard if for no other reason than you must have missed your bowie terribly.

Patience is a wonderful thing though, I'm told there's not enough time left for me to ever acquire it but the desire is there.

I'm was just too damn tired. 4 days at Disneyland. Yesterday, the day we drove back home. We got up at 5:30am to get ready and pack the car, went to Disneyland at 8:00am to meet with some friends, spend all day there, left at 10pm, and drove 6 hours back home. We got home at 4:00am, I was dead tired, called in sick to work, and now I got to unpack everything (I'd rather be at work!). I'll get to the knives sometime tonight, I hope.

Disneyland again?

Sounds like my enjoyable Auntie visits. Visit late on Friday, pull out 0500 Saturday and drive 13 hours home. Can't wait to do it again. You think I'm a masochist?

Yea, one more year of Disneyland annual passes, expire in August, thank goodness. 2 more visits, one in June, and one in July.

Then it's off the Philll's neck of the woods in FL for a Caribbean Cruise on RCL sometime next year, or the year after, depending on our work schedules.

We'll be starting our annual Hawaii trips again too, since no more Disneyland for awhile...:D
