Have a few knives which need to go into storage, and I thought this might be of use. It's the clingy stuff you wrap food in.

Thanks for reading.

I use zip lock baggies with desiccant packs in them. I change the packs out every year.

i use vacuum packer , you can cut it to any size. it takes the air away and locks out
moisture. i put a little oil on and i make it big enough to hold the knife and the case, spread about 1" apart. I cut a piece of tubing and place it over the blade edge after that i store in my safe.
got some thats been there for more the 2 years, and still looking good

maybe coat the knife in a light oil and then wrap it up? or add in some of those little bags of silica gel?

Give it a thick oil coating most anything will work, ziploc bag press out as much air as you can and you have a fine storage device.

Nooooo, plastic will just trap moisture! Unless you are vacuum packing it.

Just put some oil on the blade, and leave it out of it's sheath.

Gunwrap by Brownell's is FANTASTIC for storing knives....It is a corrosion preventing paper that emits a vapor to stop rust.

roll the knife in a brown paper bag, place in a ziplock bag and put 1 piece of charcoal to absorb moisture.

+1 on that one.

We use similar material in the shop.

LPS3....leaves a thick waxy film...works great...lasts for years:thumbup:

I use, and highly recommend, A.G. Russell RustFree.
Very inexpensive and very effective.

I've got tool steel knives coated with it (one drop per side, spread out carefully to cover the entire side) that are in perfect shape after over 2 years in storage.

It's a thick silicone liquid.

For wood or other non-synthetic handles I use Renaissance Wax.

I use mineral oil for the blade and handle and then rest the knife on wool and cover with wool.
But that's not exactly storage. It allows for easy access to the knife.

A vacuum packer is a GREAT idea...thanks for the tip.

Clean the knife, dry it thoroughly, and apply a light coat of oil. Weaponshield CLP is what I use (because I keep it in the house for my firearms). It's the best on the market, period. Running your finger on the metal should yield little to no oil.

Wrap the knife in regular old newspaper. There's oil in the paper that'll also help protect the knife and it won't trap moisture. Store in a dry place.

Interesting stuff, thanks. Unfortunately I don't have any of the aforementioned articles or suitable type of weapon oil.
While I get it together the best I can manage is brown packaging paper, would that be suitable?.
