Always liked the Cold Steel Master Hunter, but disliked the Secure-Ex sheaths they’ve been supplied with. Historically, they’ve come with other sheaths as well, and they can be hard to find. My favorites are the real Kydex ones which were used only for a short time, and the Cordura sheaths.
2 reasons I dislike the Secure-Ex on this model is that it wears on the Kray-Ex guard, and can dull the edge, though not as badly as on other models in my experience.
Anyway, the Cordura (heavy nylon) sheaths have the smallest footprint of all the sheaths and I quite like them. I’ve had a bunch, and though they are sturdy, they eventually get stains and the material can fray.
Get to the point!
I decided to use the spray type Plastidip to reinforce one. Taped off the snaps and did 4 coats, 30+ mins between coats. I then removed the tape directly after the 4th coat while it’s still wet, as recommended by Plastidip, let it dry, then fastened the snap and did 2 coats over everything. Let it dry for 14 hours (instructions say 4 minimum) to be sure it cured.
The result feels nice and sturdy. I carried it all day and see no issues. I will update this thread if I notice any deterioration.
Picture isn’t uploading very clearly, but you can see where it had been taped off. I’m hoping it makes for a longer wearing sheath. Time will tell.
