My grinder have ratchet tension so I can get belt extremely tight.I found that I can use slack belt /belt is tight but no plate behind belt/ for grinding .It removes pretty much steel on fast speed .That way I grind /free hand/ convex side on this big Jakut knife . I wonder......what if I do this ? Two vertical plate from both side of belt .Angle towards belt would be adjustable ,press blade on belt till blade touch that two plate and move blade like we do when we grind bevels with plate behind edge .This way It will be possible to grind perfect convex.............I hope ? What do you think about this ? Please don t mention to do this on rotary platen , I m almost done with that tool and that is another story

Improved version of platen...this way blade can rest on this two extension for even more control when grinding.............

I think I see what you're doing - can't see why it wouldn't work. Should be fairly easy to test. I'd think the belt would need to be pretty tight so the curve didn't get to much. Have to be careful so the spine doesn't get rounded any.

Let us know how it turns out, maybe with photo of knife held in place for grinding.
