I was grinding on my Grizzley Grinder and have been having a problem with the grind not being straight. The belt is loose in the center of the platen but tight on the edges. Always gives me a lower grind line in the center. Any ideas what is wrong? Thanks guys.

Just a Guess, but I've seen it before. I think your belt is too tight, the crown on your wheel is stretching the belt. Shawn

Check your platen with a straight edge to see if its bent/warped.

I have one too (Grizzly 2x72) and the platen (and rest) is a POS that I've been fighting since day one. I'm currently looking to buy or build my own when I get caught up on some orders and have a little free time.

Also, the Grizzly grinder (I still love mine) has graphite on the platten. Make sure you haven't worn down a spot in the graphite.

Do most Plattens have a graphite pad on it? Some guys suggest removing it.

You could try two things:

1. Remove the graphite tape and glue a ceramic platen (you can get this from Darren Ellis) on using JB weld.

2. Remove the graphite tape, drill 4 holes in the factory platen and bolt on a hardened tool steel platen. I use A2 at HRC 62, and it works great.

Loosened the belt some and squared up the platten. Runs flat now but I cut the belts while grinding edge up.

Trent,
I have a grizzly as well and the ceramic platen from ellis is about twenty dollars worth of really well spent money! I use a flat strip of leather under the platen also and this seems to take a little bit of the BUMP out. Won't turn it into a KMG but will make a big difference. I really hated the graphite platen liner but that's just me.

don't use the graphite pads that came with the grizzly, you will NEVER get an even grind line with it. the ceramic (fireplace glass if you buy it local) glass is really the way to go and you will have to replace that as it becomes worn.
