I went to use my grinder and the rubber platen wheels have turned sticky and gummy. Most wheels I see are 2 x 2 ,but mine are more like 2.5 with the rubber. Is that the normal size?

KMG told me it was a normal occurrence and that I should send my EXPLODED (while in use, mind you) gummy, sticky contact wheel back to them so I could PAY them to re-cover the hub. It's currently living in a drawer.
Where did you get your wheels?

Mine came with my pheer grinder. I contacted them but haven’t heard back. I don’t mind buying new ones just dont want to get the wrong size. My platen has no adjustment.

You can buy them from many sources. Measure the ones you have and order that size. I would try to order them from the grinder maker first. Be sure to get ones with the right bearings and spacers for your setup.

That said, as long as it will fit the space on your platen it won't matter if it is 2.0X2.0 or 2.5X2.0.

If u look at the picture they are just under 2.5”. I can’t find any that size. I think if I went with 2” wheels they would be behind the platen instead of even with the face.

The photo you provided is not a pheer grinder platen. It looks like something homemade. a bolted together and non-adjustable platen like that would be a poor design.
Below is a pheer grinder platen.

You should be able to use 2" wide wheels on the same platen as long as you use different spacers to keep them centered with the belt.

Edit: nevermind, I guess you're talking about wheel diameter not width.

Do you have access to a mill? You could easily mill a slot in that angle iron so that the platen could be adjusted (within reason) to whatever diameter wheel you wanted to use as replacements.

How did you contact Jose at Pheer? Email seems to be the best. I have two Pheers and have always been impressed with his after sale service. One of my platens off my Pheer that is a lil over twelve years old has a similar wheel. I’ve not had any problems with it going gummy on me though. My newer one as pictured by Stacy has two aluminum wheels. Both machines have built many many knives.

Thx. I emailed him. I ended up finding some wheels online. I'm hoping they will work.
