I was reading about a glass platen and was woundering about it atvantages over a grafite belt for a platen? What type of glass is used?? What are other platens made out of??? What type of glue do you use to mount it to the steel???? I am trying to inprove my machine but not reinvent the wheel.
Many Thanks

Technically, it's not glass but clear heat resistant ceramic. It's sure head and shoulders above the graphite impregnated canvas, or anything else I've seen.

Thanks Mike,
I have had problems wearing out the grafite and once even wore thru it. It sounds like ceramic is alot better.

Go for the glass. I am relatively new to knife making, but I changed the graphite on my Grizzly to a glass one from Darren Ellis (first class guy). I couldn't believe the difference it made.

have fun!

I just ordered a couple of these liners for my grinders. I've always used graphite belting.

What's the best material to use to glue them to the platens?:jerkit:

J.B Weld is a good choice. Make sure the steel platen surface is flat before you attach the ceramic. There is no bend factor in the ceramic.
