platinum membership

Click the link below my signature to update your user group. That will do it.

However, any link to your business in your signature, profile or "Dealer Of Cool Tools" as your custom title must be removed as you can only have those as a dealer.

I upgraded to a Platinum Membership- when will it show up?

Thanks, Neil

As a dealer you should have purchased a Dealer membership.

You are showing as Platinum, but you do not have pm function yet. Perhaps you need to check your email for an activation email?
If you paid by paypal it can take up to 72hrs for your transaction to be processed by Spark. Sometimes longer depending on the holidays.

When that is taken care of you may need to update your Usergroup by going to Settings>Paid Subscriptions and selecting your paid membership, or by using this link: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/profile.php?do=editusergroups

I had and paid for a dealer membership for the last few years- but as it was doing nothing for me I decided to go platinum instead so as to further my support for BF without he cost of the dealer membership.

In retrospect I should have just stayed as a regular member. If Spark would like to refund the difference that would be fine.

I don't really like your insinuation that I was doing the dealer route without the proper dealer membership paid for.

I will wait to hear back regarding the refund before proceeding.

What insinuation? Your signature had your dealer links in it. Your profile still advertises you as a dealer, as well as your link to your website in your hompage and your custom title. I only pointed out that as a dealer, you should have purchased the appropriate membership for such if you wished to remain a dealer.

How did you pay? I'm not seeing it in paypal. EDIT: nm, you needed to go to the user cp and switch your permissions group. I got it for you. You do need to edit out the dealer info though, as that's not allowed at a non-Dealer membership level

Well I guess you still don't understand that I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE A DEALER MEMBERSHIP again.

When my dealer membership came up for renewal I decided not to reup - but instead of dropping to a regular membership I paid for a Platinum membership to show my $$ support to BF.

I thought this was a pretty nice thing to do on my part considering that I have less than 1000 posts in over 10 years.

But clearly instead of just helping me activate the Platinum membership, you seem bent on trying to embarrass me and start drama by accusing me of some effort to appear as a dealer on BF without paying.

My profile does now and will stay indicating that I am a dealer as it has for the last 11 years- as far as I now that is fully within the rules.

As far as the custom title I can change it to something else with pleasure .

But whatever you guys decide to do will be fine with me- you should be ashamed of yourself for your posts.

Mr. Ostroff,
As you can see, i did try to help you, as did Blues. I did not remotely accuse you of anything or try to embarrass you......

Please take time to read the posted forum rules:

Paid $50.00 by Paypal on 11/6 to Twelve Bravo Marketing.

Please confirm to the public so I don't look like a deadbeat as well.

Neil, I don't know what the problem is or why you are acting (in my view) overly sensitive and lashing out. You posted your question in a public area rather than sending a message directly to Spark or one of the moderation staff, so the subject has been discussed openly and honestly in the public domain. Certainly nobody has accused you of being a deadbeat.

I seem to remember a lot of forum members standing up for you here on the forums some time back when some sort of controversy reared its ugly head. If I am confusing you with another dealer, my apologies. My point being that I think you've been treated fairly and I'd venture to guess that you've gotten back what you've put into the site.

As to the rules, this is a business, much like you have to run. You don't give away knives for free and this site was forced at a point in time to offer memberships which would be beneficial to dealers and craftsmen amongst others and help defray the costs associated with running it.

You are actually incorrect about what's allowed in your profile...here are the pertinent sections but I will highlight the most pertinent in connection with the issue you raise:

SECTION 1- Membership Levels Defined:

BladeForums.com is supported by members who have paid subscriptions. These different subscription levels offer various perks and benefits. As such, only certain membership levels may advertise items and services for sale on this site. Below are some general guidelines as to what priviledges each membership has within this area.

MANUFACTURERS - Manufacturers & their designated moderators may offer items for sale in their dedicated Hosted Manufacturer Forum. Manufacturers are encouraged to contact us regarding pricing for a Hosted Manufacturer forum.

DEALER / MATERIALS PROVIDER - Dealers are defined as anyone who purchases at wholesale pricing, or purchases items with the intent to resell (flipping). Other terms for dealers include purveyor, broker, reseller, etc. Materials Providers offer raw materials such as steel, handle materials, or other items related to knifemaking in general as typical stock for sale to the forum members or to the general public via their own store front or website.

KNIFEMAKER / CRAFTSMAN / SERVICE PROVIDER (hearafter referred to as "Knifemaker") - Knifemaker's are allowed to sell items that they have personally created or modified in the KnifeMaker For Sale forums, or their own Hosted KnifeMaker Forum. If you are a knifemaker or craftsman and would like your own Hosted KnifeMaker Forum, please contact us.

PLATINUM or GOLD - Platinum or Gold members are allowed to post in any of the Individual For Sale or Trade forums. They may sell items in the For Sale By Individuals

BASIC MEMBERS - Basic members are not allowed to post items for sale. You may post items for Trade in the Wanted To Trade Forums, or post requests for items to purchase in the Wanted To Buy Forums.

REGISTERED USERS - The first level of membership. This one has no perks other than the ability access the Exchange to purchase items or trade. Registered useds are NOT allowed to post items for sale,
If you have not purchased a paid subscription, you are by default a Registered User. As such, you are not allowed to sell items on the forums. You may post items for Trade in the Wanted To Trade Forums, or post requests for items to purchase in the Wanted To Buy Forums.

*The only members who may promote or display their personally built knives, their products, or services in the discussion threads, signature, home page listing or their user profile are "Manufacturers", "Dealers", and "Knifemaker/Craftsman/Service Provider".*

Nobody is trying to embarrass you or take advantage of you. We are trying to maintain a level playing field. None of the moderation staff have any financial interest in the site and see not one thin dime. It's all done on a volunteer basis.

Yes, obviously you do have the dealer in question- and I do thank you for standing up for me when those situations did arise- more than once I believe. Much appreciated.

However, I guess as an infrequent poster here I was not aware of the routes to take to resolve an issue like this the easiest one was to post here in the support area- I thought.

I changed my custom title to one that does not infringe in the Dealer rules- I suppose I was under the impression that it would disappear when the status was dropped down to Platinum.

I have had website in the profile for 11 years- it was never an issue before and I had not thought about that all these years. That is now changed as well.

I appreciate all the hard work you guys do- however I must stand up for myself when Karda comments twice that if I am dealer I should have a dealer membership after I clearly said I no longer wanted to be a dealer here.

Finally, I will never tolerate being accused of not paying for something as was implied when it was suggested that my payment had not been received or paid.

Consider that that over 260 folks have viewed this thread.

I am closing the thread now- was not even aware that I could do that until now, but if you feel that a final word from you is warranted then go ahead and re-open it.

Neil, I am going to leave the thread closed and just offer a comment based upon my intuition and experience and I hope it will be sufficient to put the matter to rest.

Nobody on the moderation staff thought you were guilty of non-payment because when we check your profile we could already see that the "platinum membership" was in place awaiting update.

As to Karda's comments, and I hope both you and he will both forgive my speaking on his behalf, I am certain that his intention was solely to alert you to the fact that if you had renewed your membership at the "platinum" level (in error) you would lose the privileges you previously held at the dealer level. Certainly all moderators (as well as Spark) recognize your right to choose any level of membership (or none at all), and certainly appreciate your support of this site. It is unfortunate that the written word sometimes comes across in a manner unintended by the writer, and so where Karda thought he was being helpful in alerting you to a potentially unwanted issue, you took umbrage in thinking that he was accusing you of trying to get something for free which you no longer wanted.

No need to reply, I just wanted to make sure (for the record) that you understood that there was no evil intent on his part and to make sure that the air was clear for all parties going forward.

All the best and happy holidays.

It's not a big deal. Nobody is forcing you to buy any level of membership, nor are you being singled out in any way, shape or form. The rules are there so that everyone is treated fairly.

Nobody called you a deadbeat or any other derogatory term. Nobody has twisted your arm. I personally changed over your status display, so that's not a big deal either. Past that, I don't see why there's any need to get hackles raised.
