Playdough? It should probably be on your work bench.

Hear me out. There is a reason you should have some playdough. Metal shavings from your file. You want to clean them up because to defiantly don't want them working there way into places you really don't want metal shavings. Best way to pick up tiny little pieces of steel? Magnets! But then your left magnets that you can never get all those little pieces off of. What's the best thing to get little pieces off steel off of magnets? Awesome playdough!

Don't knock it till you try it.

Can you say it without the F-bomb, please.

Thanks. Good idea about the playdough.

Excellent thread to start the day, thqnk you Sir! I will add this to my "knowledge toolbox" so to say.

(Several kids will be upset, their grown-ups having raided their play stuff...:D)

Great idea about the playdough, I still like the big honking' magnet though. If you put it in a ziplock before using you can dispose of the ziplock and shavings without having shavings stuck to the magnet.

Tried sandwich bags. They don't fit tight enough so the shavings stick but fall off. Grocery bags fit tight but tear easily.

You could also stick that play dough inside a tool eye to get the exact shape needed to fit a handle.

I've also used plumber's putty and glazing putty (glazing putty smells best). I usually have those around, no playdough around here :D

I rarely need the bench that clean though - why should it be cleaner than the rest of the shop? :D

I just work outside under a covered patio and sweep the iron shavings out onto the grass. Iron kills the moss.
