Player to convert LPs to MP3s?

Hello!

I am looking for a reasonably good turntable with user-friendly software to convert a whole pile of my LPs to digital recordings. I have an older Crosby player that produces good sound, but it only converts to WAV files (I think that is the right type- the file type that is on regular store-bought CDs). It also requires you to sit on top of it to manually split the tracks. It does allow me to "rip" the recorded CDs directly to my Windows Media Player in MP3 form, and it sounds good, but there is no opportunity to edit the recordings and the "track split" feature sometimes is slow to function and chops off the first few seconds of the new song.

My wife bought an Ion turntable for me for Christmas, that runs directly off the computer's USB port, with decent software that automatically splits the tracks, but it produces terribly muffled sound. It transfers its files to Itunes, which then requires that I manually transfer the files to Media Player.

So, I am looking for something that produces good sound, with decent software to edit the recordings. I cannot afford another Crosby; my budget is limited to $150 or hopefully less. RCA makes one that looks reasonable, but I am not sure about the software with it. I am not too computer-savvy but can learn, so something that is fairly straight-forward to use is a must.

If anyone has recommendations for such a thing, or any experience with editing software that they like, I would appreciate any input you might offer.

Thanks very much!
