here there folks. k i got a question if u can call it one. since i live in a concrete jungle(see left), the play with my knife a lot when i ssay play i mean flickin the blade of my edc open. i get so addicted to it. theres nothin like hearing the click of metal against metal. on an average say i do that about 50 times a day, give or take. anyway i was thinkin if by doing this will i in any way damage the pivot or anything else(if there is). if theres anything i noticed it kinda made the openin of my edc smoother. pls confer good folks. thanks.

Wears the lock sooner than expected and pivot pin (depending on what type) may become loose. Course I do the same with a couple of my knives regularly by flicking them open, and so far none of this I mentioned has happened. Been lucky I suppose!

u kept open and cloesd ahah..
confirmed lose.. man...
give u some cute theroy..
when u open and close..
tiny moleular of element in contact , tat is the blade and pivot, they will err... cos friction... so moleular will give way and left its place.. so the gap become bigger and bigger so it become looose
i think that explanation are real simple..
cheers

I think we're talking about "wear"...no?

Wearing it out means you get to go shopping for a new one. Then do it again and again. Such a vicious cycle we blade lovers have to deal with.

but I have slowed it down I try to enjoy it longer while it is open.

clean my nails, admire my razor sharp edge, cut some veggies, prolong that special intimacy that my wife doesn't understand.

but that click is something!

That's why we all need more than one edc to rotate, so we don't wear any of them out too soon!

The finest sound any knife I own makes is that clean, sharp *click* when my Sebenza closes.

jln26,

I too am a "flicker", my dad says he'll strangle me if I do it anymore, but I still do (just more quietly now :)).

For my flicking, I use my cheaper knives (such as my POS Springfield Armory Liner-Lock), i'd never dream of doing this with any $50+ knife if it could be avoided, I want those to last!

By 'flicking' do you mean having the pivot screw loose so you can flick it open without using the thumb stud from a close position. Or opening it a bit and 'flicking' it open fully?

I am still struggling to 'flick' open knives from closed! But then I dislike blade play... or the damage which MUST result.

I stick with slow thorough straight forward one handed opening with thumb so my click'n sound is the lockback on my spyderco.

I knew this guy with a large appelgate folder who did a hard wrist flick and ruined his knife screws flew out and it literally was
un-usuable.
