I used to do a bit of sculpture in harder stones and thought it would be fun to try my hand at shaping some green soapstone

Tools used - Kiridashi, hacksaw with rod blade, 2 riffler files, 100-2000 grit sandpaper

It's not very good but I had fun trying out a few techniques I wanted to use. My goal was to - not break the rock :D , do some fluting, an overhang, connected holes so I'm happy with that part. I cut the rough form with the hacksaw then used the kiridashi for most of the shaping and hole drilling. After that I cleaned it up with a coarse then fine file then went to wet hand sanding. I need to go back over the finish and fix a scratch that I missed then buff to 14,000 grit and oil.

It's tiny, maybe 4" at the longest dimension.

Thats cool! Just add that to my dashi lanyard and I'll send you the difference :)

edit: lol a 4" bead :)

Nicely done. I actually have quite a few soapstone carvings around the house, I like that one.
