So I was gifted a Ka-bar 1217 from our dear friend Moose...
so i decided it was time to take it out and play around a little. I figured I would take some pictures so show Moose that the ka-bar was getting a little use.

Here is a view where we (wife came along, she took most of the pictures) parked and hung out.

We were on the Natchez Trace just outside of Jackson Mississippi. Nice sign with some history for those that are interested

Here is a picture of the knives I brought out to play with. They are: Ka-bar 1217, buck 119, becker necker, Victorinox Tinker and Case Sodbuster I also had a 12" Ontario Machete, but i didnt take a pic of it

This is a little friend i made out in the woods. Needless to say when i looked down and saw this 7-8 inch critter crawling up my leg, i definately screamed. I assure you all that it was a manly scream though :D

So i cut down a small sapling to make a walking stick, my wife took several pics of me in the process of cleaning the bark off

And i found a piece of hard wood to try batonning. I will say now, this wood was very hard and i did not get all the way through it. It must be 100 degrees with 90%+ humidity, so yes thats my story and i am sticking to it

When cross-cutting, angle your blade slightly. Makes deeper cuts, less hard on the blade, more efficient. It's all about saving calories, or so I'm told.

:D

My problem is that I save to many calories. Nice pictures and what is that stick bug?

You gave me the best laugh I had today.:D Looks like you had a good time.

Excellent pics, I would scream also.........not affraid of bugs but damn that thing is creepy

Nice pics, My son and I took the dogs for a morning run today. Dogs took after a deer in one direction and 10 seconds later dog A comes running back down the single track trail at full speed with a MOOSE in hot pursuit just as we were diving for the tree's he veered into the woods (about 30 ft from us) I cant prove it but I think my blue heeler (dog B) had something to do with it. :) Anyhow like my son said "that got my heart going". Sorry no time for pics ;)

my wife was in the truck, she said she heard me in the woods chopping with the machete. This is what SHE says she heard.....chop, chop, chop, oh s$^ t. oh s$*t. OH S#$T!!!
But i still assure it was a manly scream, not a girly scream. I remember physically grabbing it and throwing it off my leg, i actually didnt realize what it was until i threw it, then i felt silly

The stick insect is harmless.

you know, i KNOW that its harmless, however when you feel something on your leg and expect to brush a vine off and see a huge frigging bug on you in mid machete-swing, its a humbling experience ;)

Ha ha! Oh man. O bet it was a mighty scream sir! The type reserved for pits of death, and banishing Satans beasts to the depth from whence they came.
Finally picked up a traditional KaBar. Trying out some low/no weight stuff and this and my 11 travel handsomely together.

Looks like a good time Smitty. I need to get out myself.

Good to see a Kabar gettin' some time out in the woods. Love those 1217's, man I really do.

Moose

PIC edited to show actual size of the monster that RSmith fought off in the woods with nothing but a Ka-Bar 1217. They weren't screams they were WAR CRIES from earths newest hero! haha nice pics man!
