This weekend I get to do some chopping and spliting with HR. In my opinion HR is for it's size a good chopper. I never have the pleasure to use larger Busses than my HR and I'm sure FBM is much better than HR in chopping, but as a genral woods walking/all around camping blade HR is really good. It choppes much better than Ka-Bar that I used to have...
As to spliting - I splited some birch fireplace wood. It was seasoned, but birch itself is not to hard. No problems there. As a baton I used another stump of birch (also showed in the pics) due to not having anything better suited at hand... I don't think the shape of the upper edge of the HR or the swedge would cause problems while batoning. You just have to use thick enough batton
As to CBT - to me no difference. The coating amazes me. Beside smoothing - no signs of wearing. And after all the work the knife was still shaving sharp. Love that blade:thumbup:
