Mark, I had to look twice at the maker's mark. You have arrived, my friend. I don't think I can teach you any more than you know now.;)

Thanks for the kind words Paul! I'll eventually come up with my own personal style, but till then I'm gonna shamelessly copy your stuff best I can!
Now if I can just figure out how to aquire 20 yrs experience without having to wait 20 years....
Thanks once again for all your help,
Mark

One of the great things about Paul is that he freely gives information that he took many years to perfect. He is the man when it comes to giving great advice and showing his personal technique. My sheaths would not look anything like they do now if he was not as forthcoming in the techniques that he invested so much time in. He led me in the direction of the Cobra sewing machine (and let me tell you, I can't wait to stitch sheaths now...I'm not kidding, I want to finish a knife so that I get to stitch the sheath on my new machine, that is how much I love it!). Anyways, knifeleather, I am slightly green with jealousy for your opportunity to hang out with Mr. Long. I live in NY and have rarely made it down to Texas, so the opportunity is not there. BTW the sheath looks great, and I can see Mr. Long's influence in it. I mean that as a compliment. I hope people can say the same about my sheaths.

Off topic: Hey Matt! I am glad you got that Cobra and that it is working well for you.. I've had a chance to use the Cobra 14 Splitter quite a bit and it is a pure joy. I am back to buying sides instead of backs, because I can now make my own 2/3 out of 7/8 belly trim and cut my waste to almost zero. Bellies make fist rate 2/3. The top grain is as good on the belly as anywhere else on the side.

Hi Mark I just picked up a cobra 4 over the holidays to go with my landis 30 spliter. What little i have done on it has turned out real nice. I sure appreciate all the help Paul has given me. It was great to stop by and see him last fall. Here is one just got finished.032.jpg

Thanks guys!
Claude, sweet looking sheath! I also bought a cobra 3 and the cobra 17 after seeing Paul's machines in action, they're great. I'm sure I'll end up with one of those cobra 14's in the near future....
Matt, I agree, I'm almost tempted to ditch the knifemaking and just focus on sheaths!

Mr. Long is 'THE MAN'!!
