Been doing a little experimenting with some different leathers ....
First is horse Cordovan, from Hand American......pretty nice to work with. It's kinda thin, about 5-6oz. I didn't have to wet it down at all, and of course didn't have to dye it, so this sheath went together pretty quick. It changes color as you bend it. I believe I'll be using more of it for smaller fixed blade knives. This leather seems to be pretty oily, almost like latigo, but it's a much finer finish.

Next is bark tanned bridle, about 8oz, also from Hand American. I didn't have to dye this either. I really like the nice rich tan color of this stuff. The wet forming didn't turn out as hard and stiff as with veg tanned, but still pretty firm because of it's thickness. I'm anxious to make another out of this leather to see how it takes on a little stamping. It also seems to have some oil content.
Hopefully Keith from HA will chime in on anything important I neglected to tell you about these leathers.

Very nice. Very clean. Good looking. I'll be keeping these in mind for my next fixed blade. Thanks for the pictures.

My limited use of Bridle leather showed that it doesn't hold a stamp so well.... the stamping kind of looked soft... not nice and crisp like on tooling or skirting leathers.

The Horse looks good!
