playing with plastic

I've been trying to learn to craft kydex sheaths that did not need a tek-lok or other add on. I like IWB configurations for wearing in the city and I find them generally comfortable. I made this for my miliganza AD. So I submit this for your perusal. I know that Bob Dozier makes a similar sheath that goes inside the waistband. That is where I got the idea but there is a seven month wait for his stuff. I have one on order and should get in in January of next year. Or maybe I will just buy one at the NY knife show and cancel my order. That is what the people at Dozier suggested. Anyway thanks for looking.

Looks good to me

Is there a reason why you prefer the larger integrated Kydex flap over a much smaller and slimline IWB rubber loop? Just curios that's all.

You are right. I made the clip way too large. It was my first try and I did not know if I could make it work. I can always make it smaller so I tend to oversize things when experimenting. I wanted an integral clip or I would have used some sort of stainless steel pistol clip.

Nice work. I like the way you folded the clip. I will have to try that. Nice work. I was afraid to grind away the plastic as close to the riverts as you did but both your sheaths look very well done.

ive been thinking of trying my hand at some kydex sheaths/holsters.

what do you guys use to cut/trim the kydex?

Just score the kydex with a sharp knife and it will snap right off along the cut almost like glass. You can use this method for splitting off bigger chunks.

You can use a dremel or sander to do the finish shaping.

looks good!

However, I am the only one who expected pictures of your latest purchases and smoldering credit card??? ;)

the clip is better than a loop for IWB because you can still wear it even without a belt --- but only if the clip is strong enough to "grab" and not pull out when you try to draw the knife.

good looking sheath

I tried a hand held jigsaw and it scored things too much... my favorite is an $600-800 bandsaw i found locally on ebay for $42- hardly used. Man do I love using that thing... (kinda like free food tastes the best, it was such a deal that using it is a thrill)

accidental post. I wish there was a way to remove a post completely when you make a mistake like posting the same thing twice.

Hey Guys...

mfaster....

If I may suggest something...

Take the end of that clip you formed and turn it back up towards the top of the sheath and form a hook of sorts...

Now when you IWB the sheath, that hook will grab underneath the belt and will stay there when you draw the knife.

With the way you hae it now, you run the risk of drawing plastic....

Nice job BTW..

Thanks Eric, You always make wonderful suggestions....which is no surprise at all. I just reshaped the clip and it is a vast improvement. I really appreciate the help

Normark suggested that a kydex integral clip should be bent upwards toward the sheath at the bottom of the clip so that it hooks the belt. I took his advice and now, with or without a belt the sheath grabs the waistband and sits securely as I draw the blade. Great advice Eric. This sheath now works better than any I have.

Hey Guys...

Mfaster...

Excellent..

Glad it worked...

Ummm actually I meant bend it up the other way, so it forms a "J" hook,, but this works as well... What you have made is a "G" clip,, which I prefer...

In fact it's better than a "J" clip as you can still use it without a belt... The "J" clip you basically need a belt for it to work..

Good job....

Ah! I understand now what you meant. Actually I wondered if I followed your suggestion correctly because you did say to bend it towards the top of the sheath. I bent it away. But this "G" clip is ideal for me as it can be used without a belt. Thanks again!!
