We are buying a new house soon and one thing I will have is a fire pit just so I can prep wood with my BK9.

I have a lot of tree's and get limbs that fall of. So I use them to cook with. In the fire pit.
Now I have a BK-9 to help me do the wood with.
Life is good.
That's what i do as well. I pick up the small branches that fall out of the trees, and put them in a big tote, that I keep next to the firewood for kindling.
 
Using the cutting edge for striking fire steel is a big no-no, it leaves chips in the blade, and fairly deep ones at that.
