Playstation 3 running sooooo slow

I just got my ps3 today and finally figured out what was wrong with it. I thought that was goign to be the end of my troubles, man was i wrong. I put Call of Duty 4 in and once i get to the main menu on the game and click new mission something comes up about not turning it off while its saving blah blah blah and i press X for continue. then it takes about 4 minutes to get to the next screen and freezes for several minutes, almost like its loading or something. there is no way there should be any problems with it. im thinking maybe its the game, but am yet to buy another game. anybody have the same problems or know what the problem is and how to fix it possible? thanks for any and all feedback
 
just a little update...my brother says it loads really slow but once it finally loads gameplay is normal.
 
Don't know about the PS3, but the X Box 360 will freeze occasionally when it starts over-heating... so that could be a sign that yours is doing the same thing. Keep it ventilated, can't think of anything else...

It does sound like overheating, how long was it on for? Where do you have the unit, and does it have enough space around it? I seen a aftermarket fan you could try. I just don't like the idea of using one. Mine and tons of others run great with out this fan. Also have you done the new system update? I think its like 2.1 or something now(might be 2.2 .)

You might just have A.D.D. And the 8second load time might only just feel like FOREVER...........
 
haha i might have ADD...my brother and sister both have it. good news anyways...we figured it all out. i guess i was just a second or two impatient while reseting the ps3 to my tv. now im playing oblivion and i cant stop! although i would be a lot better if i coudl just figure out how to use magic easier or just use it at all
 
COD4 has been EXTREMELY laggy since the last update. The smaller games are more playable than the large ground wars though. It's just the COD4 servers, it's not bad on other games.
 
it ended up that there were smudges on the disc itself...a simple rub off and it worked fine along with the ps3 as the whole. i personally am addicted to Oblivion still...but struggle because for some reason it still doesnt want me to use any magic..even the most basic stuff
 
I'm contemplating a PS3, not just for the gaming, but for the DVD capability. Do you have a hi def TV? I am wondering how well the PS3 makes regular DVDs look on a big screen hi def set? I guess I'll have to start renting and buying BluRay, but I need a new player, the 50 inch DLP tv will be here next friday.
 
Playing a regular DVD from the PS3 does look slightly better on an HD TV, than when played on a regular player. BluRay movies look amazing though. It's like comparing a VHS tape to a DVD. But they are spendy, so I only have a couple.
 
Yeah, I think I'll have to get some sort of Netflix along with DirecTV high def. The new TV will be here Thursday, and I should have the full setup by this weekend. The PS3 rates so high in the DVD playing categories on sites like Cnet, I didn't even have to justify it to the wife, just suggested it and she's ok with it.
