Plea for a D2-bladed S&M Series XVI-type Rail Splitter Moose...

Hi folks.

I am a fan of Queen's canoe pattern, trappers, and the occasional stockman...but ever since I first saw Schatt & Morgan's Series XVI Rail Splitter Moose I have been harboring a dream that this pattern will be released either as a Queen regular production knife or a S&W File & Wire series.

I'd love to see a Rail Splitter Moose in D2 or ATS-34....heck, I'd really like to see it as the next 1095 Queen - though I'm guessing that's unlikely. Speaking of 1095 Queens...I just picked up another - this time a mini-trapper (green) from CKW. Can't wait 'till it arrives.

SO anyway...here's a thread for those of like mind to chime in their support for such an endeavor.

I would be in for at least a couple.

Maybe we can try something like this on our next group buy. (It is going to take me a while to get over the one we have going on now) :D.

Count me in too !

I just got my first moose... a Remington Bullet with carbon blades and I love it.

It just feels right and it sits in the hand very well.

Moose??
I'm definitely, definitely in on that!!!!

Another variation (other than a S&M XVI repro) that I'd love to see would be akin to the Winchester swell-center Moose or Vintage Knives' custom swell-center Moose (I guess I like the swell-center). :)

Pages 1 & 2 of this link show examples of each of these:

I believe that the Vintage Knives' folder was made by Queen and of course the S&M was too. I am not sure about the Winchester.... In either case, one would think that Queen should ba able to do this will not too much set-up problem.

My wish list would be for a Sambar-handled or good red or natural jigged bone-handled swell-center Moose with D2 blades. Minimal (or No) blade etching and a simple shield.

I have the Series XVI Railsplitter Moose and like it a lot, but S&M Railsplitters in general are my absolute favorite pattern. I collect them and have about ten. However, I don't carry ANY Railsplitters due to the fact that they've only been offered in 420HC so far.

My dream slippie is a S&M Railsplitter stockman in sambar stag and 1095. As long as we're dreaming let's make that a punch blade stockman. However, I'd go ape over any RS configuration in a high performance steel. The RS moose in D2 or ATS-34 sounds good to me.

You have my vote if this is the way we want to go for the 2007 forum knife.

Hey longbeachguy,
have you checked out the Vintage Knives moose pattern knife? 1095 steel & ebony in the handle... nice knife. That said, I still want a D2 version of the Series XVI Railsplitter Moose... (do I hear an echo in here?). :)

Yeah I've seen that, it's a beauty. The closest I've gotten to a Railsplitter stockman in 1095 is the Shapleigh's (Parker Brand) equal end punchblade cattle pattern. I do carry this, and it's a great knife. I was watching one on ebay today and it closed for $32. That is an INCREDIBLE deal.

Thought I had a pic, but I guess not. If I get up the gumption to take one, I'll post it.

I have the Vintage Knives' one, and it's a hefty piece of moose. Definitely a user. Very well made with good fit and finish and fairly thick blades and springs. And it cuts like a cutty thing!! :D
The springs are a tad too strong for my taste - they're so strong that you risk loosing your nail opening a blade. But tha's really the only minor gripe I have about this knife. Other than that - Love it!!!

Although I don't have the particular models you refer to here, I generally like the winchester moose models. The are some of the most pocket-friendly mooses I have, and that's something I rate highly. Good pick!!

Still, if I could choose for a group purchase, my I'd go for the S&M railsplitter. In fact, I'd go for several of them.
And I'd like to add wooden handles to the handle-materials-wish-list.

:)

So....maybe when Mr. Bastid gets some free time again....we can prepare to send our greenbacks to Queen for a D2-bladed "Series XVI-type" Railsplitter Moose???

I think I'd pick up one in each handle material they offer if this thing gets off the ground. My all-time fav's are my 1095 Queen Canoes and my lowly D2 Winterbottom Canoe. I trade them out for a congress, a trapper, or a stockman once in a while, but the Canoe just "fits" me. The S&W Railsplitter model appears to have nearly all of the features I like about the Queen canoe - and a few Stockman-like attributes to boot. I truly hope we see that day that this becomes available - I need a few "big brothers" for my canoes.

As a teaser, here’s a re-post of a pic that Longbeachguy posted a while back of one of his S&M Railsplitter Mooses:

Dang....each time I look at that I think maybe I will just have to pick one up - even if it is in 420 stainless.

I haven't found Queen's or Schatt's 420 to be that bad. For me at least I can get it sharper than D2. Give it a shot you might be surprised. Larry
