Hey guys. I recently purchased a Kershaw Emerson 4KXL and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the knife. It functions well and opens very smoothly. The wave feature works great. Lockup is early and very solid. Centering is perfect. Fit and finish is very good. Overall I'm very happy with this knife for the price. What do you guys think of the Kershaw Emerson knives?

Good for you, my only experiences with Chinese Kershaw knives haven't been good but that doesn't seem to be the norm from what I hear.

have a few emerson kershaws including that one. the one ya got is the best of the bunch of the ones i have.

the al mar kershaws arent bad either. ive been enjoying those lately.

Yep, I grabbed mine on sale for 21.00 a couple months back. I've been using it hard and have been so far impressed. It's my folding EDC (also carry a much more expensive fixed blade with it)

I own the Kershaw CQC-3K that I just leave in the glove compartment of my car. It's a decent knife for the money, but I don't really have any reason to use it over my ZT0620 or any other better quality knife.

How timely. My dear cousin showed up for a visit with a Cryo as a birthday gift. I am impressed as well, well made and sharp.

I tried to destroy the 4kxl by waving and wrist whacking it hundreds of times at work. Didn’t faze it. Gave it away cause the weight. Good knife though

Besides WE knives made in China, I've been impressed as of late with Chinese made knives.
Some I've had for years with no problems.

One of the guys I work with got three different Emerson Kershaws recently and they're all pretty decent. Fit and finish is good on all of them. I really don't know if I'm surprised by that or not....

The Kemersons are typically well made and well put together. I have a couple and have gifted a couple.
I've also been impressed with the Kershaw AM3, which is a collaboration with Al Mar.
The Reverb is very light duty but a nice little knife.
The plastic handle Dividend was OK, not the easiest lock to access but still an incredible value given that it's made in the USA.
I was also impressed by the Valmara, a great Les George design at a very low price.

All in all, I think Kershaw does a good job of filling the low end niche in the knife market. They continue to push the envelope with new, sometimes too daring, designs. I wish they'd offer more choices without assisted open, but I think AO covers up poor action in cheap knives.

Kershaw has a tough challenge with what Tangram Knives and others are bringing to the table. Kershaw, Byrd and Ontario are falling behind when compared to some of the new players.

I only have the XL. It is too heavy, and has never deployed very smoothly. I don't remember whether I tried to adjust the pivot screw. It looks, feels, and performs like a Chinese knife to me. The Tenacious/Byrd lines are much better quality IMO. I have kept this one so far because I do like big knives that are reasonably priced. I will probably, eventually barter/gift this knife.

My favorite inexpensive Kershaw is the OSO Sweet, very nice features for the $

I had other chinese KAI and was disappointed by them, most of all the Nura 3.5 which I promptly got rid of. At the price point I honestly prefer my Byrds, Chinese Spydies and even the SanRenMu for that matter

Did you cut yourself ?

I've 6 or 7 Chinese Kershaw and one (Skyline) US made Kershaw. I see no difference in quality, workmanship or cutting ability.
The Oso-Sweet is my favorite. Too bad they discontinued the Drone and Crown.

I’ve bought and gifted two Chinese Kirshaws; both impressed me for the price. A Zing and a Volt II. Neither are Emersons though.

The 4kxl is a good one. I polished the liners and blade were the washers are. It made it smoother. Then adjusted the lock bar tension and detent hole. It is alot better now. The cqc 9k is a good one too.
