I know this may sound a little odd but I have always liked knives with what I consider to be "eye appeal" as well as being functional. I have no idea what to call the coating that is applied to the CRKT Special Forces knife and I think the same coating is on the Black M16 EDC by CRKT. I would call it "Gloss Black". I really like the looks the of the high shine black of the SF knife. Now I am trying to find a good Assisted Opening in fairly high gloss black, or at least black that could be made shiny with either Renassiance wax, or Flitz gun and rifle Carnauba based wax.

Was thinking of Kershaw Avalanche, large Cyclone or Kershaw Leek. Any other suggestions in the AO under $150.00 price range? I would also like a knife that is super fast and easy one hand opening even if it is not officially listed as AO. The heavy blade M21 by CRKT is a great example. Just a small flick of the wrist and that opens really fast and easy.

Thanks to everyone here for all your help.

As far as fast opening, the leek is a good choice. I would also check out a Camillus Heat, it comes in an all black model and the AO is powerful and very fast. I have each of them...I prefer the Leek for aesthetic quality, but the Heat seems to have more of a "workhorse" feel to it.

Benchmade 672 Apparition has a great assist and is available with a black blade. Additionally, if you are ever some place where an assisted opener would be a problem, the spring is designed for easy removal, making it a regular folder. I think it is a nice looking knife also.

Didn't know it had a black blade. Is the apparition a pretty solid feeling knife?
I am going to sell my vintage Sogwinder on eBay and then see what I can find.
Was going to trade the Sogwinder here, but I guess no interest in it. Nice knife though. I want at least a 3 inch blade or else I would keep the SOG

Does the apparition come in a plain edge black??
The scales/handles/grips on the Apparition look different than the last time I looked at this knife (about 2 years ago maybe).

the SOG Flash II. It's not the latest super steel but it is flat ground. It fits my hand well (subjective) and the clip is very low profile. Not a bad knife, at all.

Look around for Leek variations, I think there was an all-black polished Leek somewhere... try Newgraham or gpknives.

Is the full size Cyclone pretty easy to open??
I mean say relative to the Leek, or the Avalanche, about as quick to open?

take a look around the kershaw forum. you will find a ton of reviews on the Cyclone. all of Kershaw's knives are very easy to open, dispite size
