Hello to all in the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades Community. My name is Ron Presley. Please forgive my manners, I have posted on this forum several times since I joined and I have never properly introduced myself. I have been a lover and collector of Pocket Knives since 1972. So as a young 18 year old I started collecting at a time when some mighty fine Pocket Cutlery was commonly available,

I started out collecting Case and Tree Brand mostly, although I did throw in the occasional German Eye, Buck Creek and Henckels, when I could find them. I started out reading everything I could find about knives. I read and still own the original “Romance of Collecting Case Knives” by Dewey P, Ferguson, copyright 1972. I would consider my collection modest by some standards, but I always bought what I could afford and when I could afford it.

I have truly enjoyed browsing this community and briefly participating in some of the conversations. I am looking forward to pulling up a rocker on the porch and becoming acquainted with all of you. Thank you for letting me join in.

Now below I will show you the 1972 Case that started my journey. I purchased this knife and its twin brother in August of 1973. I bought both knives brand new and took the box they were in also. The reason I chose to carry this knife and keep the other one mint, which it still is, was because of the color difference between the Shield and the Pile side as is evident in the photos. It is as most all of you Case collectors will recognize a pattern 6347 SH SP SSP. The cost written on the box was $17.95, a bargain by anyone’s standards. This Red Bone is truly pocket worn. I carried this knife every day for over 25 years. I gifted it to my father for helping me do some work on my house. After he passed in 2009, I got it back with a broken sheepsfoot blade. I sent it to the fine people at Case and they replaced the blade. It is still in my rotation today.

Hi Ron,
and welcome to the warmest corner of BF :) pull up your rocking chair and sit on the porch with us :)
There's a place for everyone...especially carrying such a nice (and pocket worn) Case stockman ;)

Hi Ron. That's a gorgeous knife, and a great story behind it. Looks almost new!

Welcome Ron, I enjoyed your history/story as mine is very similar;) I still own my #62087 I bought new in 1970 with money earned mowing lawns:thumbup:

I look forward to having you here as well as your input. Fantastic knife and the history behind it:)

Welcome Ron, Another Case fan here. And as Paul stated my story is very close as well. Im 50 now and love knives as much as I did in the early 70s.

Welcome.

Let me add my welcome - I share your love of collecting pocketknives - especially Case and Buck. OH

Totally expected the opening line of this thread to be "I'm a man of wealth and taste", but to my pleasure it was a fine read even without any Rolling Stones lyrics!

I just this year decided to get into traditional knife patterns, I've built up a small collection of them, but I can't just collect them.... I HAVE TO USE THEM! It just doesn't sit with me right to not use the knives I buy. Although by doing this I have a tendency to use them and then ones that don't seem to suit me get set aside.. Probably going to maybe trade/sell some...

Look forward to seeing more of your collection sir!

Welcome Ron.
You have come to a great place- looking forward to you joining in some more.
Thank you for such a polite way of introducing yourself- and it was great to read your story- the sad part was your Dads passing - but what a treasure you have in taking hold of his knife that you once gifted- to me that's a real treasure- not using that term loosley - it really is a treasure.
Love that Red Bone.

Welcome aboard, Ron. It´s a nice place here to spend time and do some nice chatting after a long day...

Thanks for the introduction. It is a nice knife indeed - and with many miles on its back (as we use to say here).
I can agree with Duncan 100%.
Take a seat and have a drink. :)

You weren't alone there Joe! :D

A pleasure to have you here Ron :) Welcome to The Porch

Welcome to the insanity, Ron! Thanks for the intro. That's a fine knife you got your dad. I'm happy you were able to get it back after his passing. Hopefully it'll bring back some fine memories of him.

thanks for sharing:) I wish I had my original knife that started me down this road, it is nice to have so many memories in one (or three!) blades. You will find this to be a helpful and all around great place to come hang out.

Welcome Ron. I saw some of your Bokers in another thread. Looking forward to seeing more!

Welcome to the traditional subforum, Ron. I think you'll enjoy the time you spend here; I know I have. Lots of kind, knowledgeable, generous, and helpful people hang around here. And stories like yours show up quite frequently and are one of my favorite things about this place; thanks for sharing yours!

Totally expected the opening line of this thread to be "I'm a man of wealth and taste", but to my pleasure it was a fine read even without any Rolling Stones lyrics!

When I first registered for the forum, I was trying to carefully compose my first post as an introductory thread in which I'd try to explain my presence here. And I had actually settled on the same thread title that Ron did. But my first line was to have been a slight twist on the Stones: I'm a man of neither wealth nor taste. But all my careful planning for a proper introduction went out the window at some point when I saw a photo of some knife that knocked my socks off and my first post probably ended up being something like, "Holy Moly, that (insert knife name here) is INCREDIBLE, (insert knife owner name here)!!" Oh, well, best laid plans…

(Can I actually go back and find all my posts, in order?)

Welcome again, Ron. Does your username Half/Stop mean you're in favor of 'em?

- GT

Ron,

I've already been enjoying your posts, so appreciate your taking the time to introduce yourself.

Good job, entering with pictures-- instant shared ground, when we can see one another's knives.

Welcome!

:)

Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to welcome me this afternoon. I really appreciate all the comments made by everyone. I had figured I would get some "Stones" references, I had told my wife that this would strike a chord with some of our crowd. It is actually one of my favorite tunes.
I already feel like one of the group. I have known for some time that this was a great place to be. I look forward to adding what I can to this community. I look forward to gaining from the wealth of knowledge that resides here. Thanks again to everyone!

-GT, I am a big fan of half stops, but the 6347 does not have them.
