Hi All,

Have been off line more or less for a couple of years and I was hoping some of you could post what in your opinion were the best threads here in WSS during that period so that I can catch up a little on what has been discussed. If you don't mind, please give a little intro to the thread you reference.
I know it's a strange request, but I'm really looking for the "Cream of the crop" that have made an impact on you in sharpening your skills in one way or another.

Of course I love anything to do with survival kits/prep and woodscraft, but am interested in just about everything that goes on in this side of the virtual woods:-)

Great to be back, and hope all of you are doing very well!

search for "to baton or not to baton" - that should keep you busy reading for weeks. it's the most controversial topic here :D in all seriousness, search for "iawoodsman". or for a one-stop-shopping, watch all his videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/iawoodsman. jcl-md has threads on various techniques/materials for bow-drill fire, doc-canada's posts are full of wild edibles, mistwalker's posts for various knife testing, tinder & one-hand fire starting, kgd has a ton of overnighter posts, rescueriley for the various poncho shelter setups...i'm missing a lot more but those are the ones that come to mind immediately.

PitDog has a few good videos to go along with the rest of these ! Welcome back 'Ol Bud !

oh and Rick is pregnant. its a miracle I say.

Hammocks have been a new buzz, especially the fully enclosed ones like Hennessy. Machetes have been reviewed, mine now has 5 edges including a square edge and rounded edge on the back, a convex grind on most of the front, a scandi grind for about 4 inches closer to the tang and I'm putting a short hollow grind on the back near the tip. All uses for those grinds have been explained and documented thoroughly.
Congratulations by the way...so full time served or early out for good behavior?
(sorry, couldn't resist)

In all seriousness the W&SS makers knife contests are the cream of the crop...Maybe the Game or somebody with some internet fu can post the links...

The original camp knife challenge is still pretty darn hard to beat - Brian Andrews set the standard for how to review knives.
The Machete Challenge - Horndog & Joe Flowers - did the reviews for the big blades.
The bushcrafter knife challenge - Tonym, Marcello, Big Mike - introduced a new twist - multiple reviewers examine the same set of knives (awesome stuff)
The necker challenge - again some good stuff here.

Check these threads out because it pretty much showcases the best of the forum - makers meet independent reviewers, knives designed for the bush, knives tested and fantastic pictures!
