I'm not being argumentative, not looking for a fight, just please clarify so I don't inadvertantly break bfc rules.

Here's a link (bfc) stating Ebay does not allow links here to their auctions. 'N2S' is a well-respected long time member here, so I trust what he says, it was just news to me. Is this a BFC rule as well?

So we cannot link to a current ebay auction when discussing a knife offered there? Can we include the item number in a post? Can we invite other members to email us for a link to said auction? Can we link to an ended auction?

Love eBay or Hate it, it is the biggest knife show in the world. I will mention I am a seller there, but do so only to show all my cards here at the table. I would never link to my own auction, or post the item number.

Respectfully,

Phil

Bladeforums objects to shilling and spotting auctions. If you post "Hey look at this wonderful bargain you might want to buy" we don't care whether you're the one selling it or not, don't post that here. We don't object to posting links for discussion purposes, though, including asking whether a knife is genuine.

Ebay could object to Ebay users pointing out on a forum that another Ebay user's auction is fraudulent if they find out about it. A great deal of that happens, though, on Bladeforums as well as on other websites.

Not2Sharp, didn't expect to have you answer here, but my compliments to you were sincere. Oh hell yes, I recall the gambler bob thread. And I had forgotten the warning sent to BRL from EBay.

Cougar, thanks for taking the time on a Sunday to clear this up for me. I think I understand very clearly now. I recently did report a posted message in the Schrade forum from someone who joined us simply to hawk his ebay auction. I didn't like that a bit.

I do recall one particular instance on another knife forum where an online seller was accused of knowingly misrepresenting an edged tool he was selling as a US Marine weapon. Word got back to the seller and he entered the discussion with both guns blazing, threatening legal action, ect. He bullied one member of the forum into a very quick apology. He did remove the disputed item from auction, but it was an ugly thread.

Thanks, guys,
Phil
