I think pocket Clips are a no-no in traditionals, even on a traditional knife these or a trapper.
Personally, I've never understood the draw of a clip, unless you're carrying in your boot. I find horizontal in the bottom of my pocket more comfortable than vertical in the same pocket. Pocket clips can also cause hot spots when you use the knife for an extended period.

Yes, clips are not allowed in this sub forum-see guidelines.

However, those Copper versions have interested me both with and without C...

I am reminded of why I just don't participate in this forum as much as I use to...
Oh well, if the mods want to lock this thread than so be it, as it certainly doesn't belong in the general knife discussion section. I guess a knife that was invented 100+ years ago, but now has a pocket clip added, is no longer a "traditional" knife...

Just learn to appreciate traditional knives for what they are and have a good time here like I did, you dont have to get upset and leave just because we don't discuss pocket clips here.
I remember when I first started to frequent the porch I posted about adding a clip to my sodbuster, I have since removed the clip, filled in the holes, and have been converted 100% to traditional knives.
I couldn't be happier, but my situation was a bit unique.
I found myself wishing modern knives would simplify and the market would take it easy, Then I found this place and realize traditional knives were really what I wanted all along.
Just got this in yesterday

If for a moment we set aside the C-word and consider the various iterations of the venerable Mercator. Brass, copper, stainless and wood handles all come at a premium price that keep me from squeezing the trigger. For that kind of dough, I would buy any of a number of other knives from Otter Messer.

As for tradition, I would wager that over 100 years ago, the first Mercators were seen by many as new and gimmicky. Today they have a longer history than many traditional patterns.

Hey, I've been here plenty, I am not new. It's just absolute BS. Nobody has a problem with posting the newest knife design in the "traditional knives", with very modern blade steel, and space age handle materials (like say a new slip joint from Lionsteel with M390 steel and carbon fiber inlays, with screw together construction) but as soon as you mention pocket clips, which have been around for a long, long time, everybody is in a huff.

I do and there are others who do as well, not everyone but there are those who do.

The problem is that theres a loophole in the wording of the porches guidelines.
Those things would not necessarily be noticed and stand out in the 60's so they technically can't be excluded.
A clip which I find just as untraditional would be seen noticed so it does get excluded.

Thank you, this is my concern also. I like the TRADITIONAL design, but wonder if the upgrades are worth it.

They're probably not.
I just got a small brass mercator in yesterday and it's a great knife and I like it, but it's more of a $25 knife than a $40 knife.

I say you'd be better off getting a standard Mercator and a dangler clip.
