Hello everyone,

I am a newbie to this forum. I happened to find this forum two days ago. After reading a few reviews and discussions, I decide to buy the following two knives. I have a few cheap knives, the current most expensive one is a SOG Visionary 2. I work in an office environment and do not need a knife for my job.
The two knives I am itching of are:

1. Spyderco sage 1
2. Zero Tolerance 0566CF

Please let me know your thoughts on my choice and if there are better option at the similar price range.

Thanks in advance.

I want to carry the Spyderco Sage as EDC and use the ZT 0566 to do tougher job (although I could not think of any yet).

If you wear slacks every day or if your employer creates a knife paranoia in the workplace then buy the Sage. If you aren't restricted to slacks and want a bit tougher folder get the ZT.

Thanks all for the reply. I just want to clarify that I want to buy both knives. I would like to know if there are alternatives for each of them. Basically I need a small and good quality EDC AND a tougher knife for other thing.

Both are hight quality knives. I think once you get into those price ranges (especially from a good company like spyderco and kershaw) it really isnt about whether its a good or bad knife anymore and it really falls on personal preference. And if your preferences are for a knife with the features they have then I think you cant go wrong.

I don't have a spy dreck but have several ZT's. I can assure you there is no better "tougher" knife for the money than a ZT. The 0566CF is a good size for comfortable carry. Go for it.

Those are solid knives. At that point in quality it boils down to preference. Those will serve you well. My brother carries a Sage 1 in slacks for his office job daily.

I have regularly carry each of these knives. Good steel and design, CF, lightweight, looks good, works well in a suit - what else could you want?

You do get more cutting edge with the ZT, though, if that makes any difference to you.

Auto spell problem or critical comment?

Welcome aboard to BF!!!!
Sure you can find alternative knives, but you have chosen two very good, dependable, well priced knives. Why look ant further, you will not be disappointed at all. Why take the chance???

I was curious about that myself...

OP - Both are quality knives and I really doubt you'll get any negative comments about either (except maybe from some fanboys).

The one suggestion I would have for you is to see if you can find a brick & mortar store so you can try out some knives for yourself. For instance, say you get your 2 knives and only then discover that you hate the feel of carbon fiber, or maybe the handles are too small for your you. Experience can be a wonderful teacher.

Oh yes, Welcome to BF!

Your choices are great. However, as an alternative to the Sage 1, there is also the Caly 3 to look at. I just saw this review of both on YT, so here is the link if you want to see it. I've carried the Caly 3 in an office environment for several yrs, and it's a great folder. The Sage series is wider, thicker grip, and "perhaps" better suited for heavier duty. Just a suggestion; both are wonderful. I've had many in the Sage series...mostly Sage 2's and 3's.

Both have a good reputation. I don't have experience with ZT, but I do with Kershaw, and they make good quality knives. I have direct experience with the Sage 1 and 2 and would highly recommend them. They are nice, light, high quality EDCs.

Thank you all! It seems I cannot go wrong with either one. I will take the suggestion to try them first if I can find a local store.
I have a question on the ZT if you don't mind; I watched on YT about the ZT assist open, the blade is so easy to be deployed with the flipper, I am wondering if the blade will be accidentally deployed when I carry the knife in my pocket? Is there a safety lock on the knife?
Thanks again.

The 566 is a heavy knife. I could not EDC it. I would look closer at an S30V Blur for EDC

The assist spring is easily removed. I bought my 0566 and 0770CF the same day locally and de-clipped and de-assisted both of them in minutes when I got home. The result is what I wanted - two flipper advanced knives with ELMAX blades! There is a ball-detent lock on the lockbar which engages a detent dimple on the blade keeping it from unwanted openings once it is closed - which is especially dependable less the assist spring. You can see & feel it lock closed.

PS The OP is referring to the 0566CF, whose carbon fiber side pares away some of the weight.

Ok, just an update and of course more questions.

I ordered the Spyderco Sage on Amazon. I could not find a local dealer has this one in stock. Based on the reviews I read, it could be a good buy.

For tougher ZT knives, I am now considering the ZT 0566CF or the ZT 0562CF. The 0562 costs 80 dollars more. Can you advise should I buy the 0562 instead of 0566 As I planned? I will go to local store to try and buy one of this tomorrow and I want to hear your opinions.

While I was checking the ZT knives, I noticed the ZT 0770CF. It looks a very good small EDC. What do you think between the Spyderco Sage and the ZT0770CF?

It depends on your usage and how big you are. For me the Sage is a much better edc knife, but I prefer a smaller knife to take up less real estate in my pocket. But if you are a bigger guy and you need a bigger tougher knife, the ZT is the way to go. Bottom line is you wont be disappointed in either one
