Hi,

I was hoping someone with these knives could compare them. Specifically, how is the 8cr13mov compared to the aus-8 (I've used both, but never simultaneously) and the lock strength/solidness. I would love comparison pictures as well. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

I can compare the steels. Both take razor edges with little effort. The 8cr takes an edge easier but loses it fairly quickly. If you are familiar with vg10, I would say the gap between the two is similar to the gap between AUS8 and VG-10. That is in my experience.

Both are good middle ground steels, better to take out in the woods than a supersteel because you can easily use a rock to sharpen em. AUS8 is the better of the two in edge retention. The Rat is the better of the two because the ergonomics and F&F far outweight the price, plus AUS8 is the better steel in this matchup.

Edge retention beats ease of sharpening simply because both are ridiculously easy to get shaving sharp.

Can't comment on the Kershaw but have had the Rat 1 for some months and wish I had bought 1 (or more) years ago. It's a great design and after using it I look at my far more expensive folders and wonder why I have them!
