I am fairly new to the forge( one year) and have made several knives and tomahawks. This latest piece was forged from a HC (high carbon) railroad spike. What do you think? Am I going in the right direction? THANKS
Looks Good! Only thing I'd like to see is a little widder at the pole, narrow poles tend to shift on the handle when you bury it in the end of a log. Forge texture looks realy cool, and is that Hickory haft?
Looks good. It looks like you have used the head end for the cutting edge.
I helped a mate make a bundle of these. We would heat the thin end and dump it up to about 1 inch (25mm) square. Flare it out for a cutting edge and put the handle hole right up under the head. Tended to give it a little more meet where the handle hole is and you can also use the head as a hammer for tent pegs. There are all sorts of things to do with the head if you like.
