Sorry guys, I'm a newb and I need some opinions on the best system(s) for sharpening my knives. I have large knives, and small folders (like my two new Kershaw Ken Onions). I like a razor edge whenever it's practical. All that I've been using for the past year or two is one of those yellow plastic handled deals with the carbon blades in the shape of a V. I'd like a sharper blade than that, and I'm not very good at holding a constant 15-18 degree angle on stone. Can you point me to the proper forum/thread/URL's to learn more about this "art" of sharpening knives? Both me and my dad could benefit need of this information.

P.S. I would have just used the search option, but thought someone might have a link or two to the best threads or sites dealing with this subject and save me a lot of stumbling. Thanks.

Welcome! There are so many threads regarding sharpening on this forum that your best bet is to do a search. You will be provided with alot of info. That is what the search function is for.

Get a Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's an excellent system for sharpening and maintaining an edge. It will help you understand what goes into making an edge sharp. It comes with a pamphlet and a video demonstrating everything you need to know.

Spyderco, but it isn't an answer to allsharpening problems, and causes a few of it's own, still nothing that can't be rectified with practice.

Oh yea, Welcome.

Welcome to Blade Forum. If the budget permits - Edgepro. Otherwise Spyderco is great, and Lansky will work too. Although once you get the basics down you might want to try free hand and stone again. I wouldn't use that yellow plastic thing anymore its not good for the knife.
