Hi All,
Please don't try this at home. Found this one while looking for old/antique Khukri. Every time I look at the images it make smile and was thinking why not share it here in the forum. Hope it's OK to post it.

Thanks

Is he using one which is dull towards the handle or is he taking extra care not to hold it to tight on the edge! :-o

We used to have a frequent poster who did several tours in the Sand Box. He could get a knife shiveringly sharp. He used to make a few and I was lucky enough to be gifted one by a forum friend, so I KNOW how ridiculously honed his blades could get. Anyway, he was a Sargent. Sarge told some tails about when the greenies would first get there he would make it a point to shave his head...with a knife:D

I know it would inspire me and fill me full of courage to know THAT guy was in the trenches with me:D

DOTD = Free Haircut!!!

I think the beard shave might be even a little more scary though...

I have been shaving my head completely bald for the past 22 years. I never thought to use a kukri. I have a couple Reti's that are sharp enough... Not sure I am brave enough to attempt it though. Cool picture, thanks for posting. Old photos like that are so interesting. I looked over every inch of the picture to find cool things. Sometimes you can find cool things in the backgrounds.

I'm rather happy with myself, Sunday evening I decided to try and improve the edge on my little bawanna bowie. I had it pretty sharp but not as sharp as I'd like.
Having had Single Edges little bowie awhile back for some handle work, it sliced paper like a knife through hot butter.

I just went after it with the mouse pad and I think 1000 grit paper and must have got lucky on the angle or something.

It felt sharp and shaved my arm like a Norelco razor. Guys at work were quite impressed.

Probably never happen again but I was happy with it this time.

If anyone ever asks: "how sharp should my kukri be?"

A kukri doesn't really need to be very sharp, especially a chopper. Think of it as an axe with a really long edge.

Some do sharpen them well enough to shave with obviously and I admire their ability to do that. A fighter type kukri I would probably lean towards keeping a little sharper.

I'm doing 8000 grit at the moment. Will finish with 14000 grit. Using diamond "finger stones".
