Please don't be a victim of doing something stupid in the shop!

The parties involved in this particular incident will remain anonymous.

On another note, I will be taking a day off to reflect.

Larry:eek:

Haven't you always told me "Do as I say not as I do"?

Looks like the Emergency room kept you away from the super glue.

Seriously hope it heals quickly.

Me too! I will see if I can find the picture of my thumb after it got stuck between the work rest and platin of my grinder with a fresh 50 grit!:barf:

....and you can ask Kevin, my first call was to the vet, but he wasn't home!

For what it's worth, this cut was from one of my Micro Spitfire's 1.9" blade.

Hi Larry. Wicked looking cut! Doesn't look like the first to that finger.

I'm one of those guys who asks all sorts of dumb questions, but hopefully am learning. Just read a long thread tonite about whether or not to wear gloves when grinding. Most, of course, said NO!

Can I assume that it is harder to hang onto/control a smaller blade than it is a more "normal" sized one? Do you use a push stick? And/or a tool rest?

Thanks, and I hope you heal quickly,

OOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHH!!
But hey...compared to the time Ken STOOD UP into a SHARPENED drop point that was held in a vise in his shop that is just a scratch. He was on CRUTCHES for over a month!!! :(
yea....be careful...cause as soon as you think everything is ok... you are going to get bit!! AND NO ONE ESCAPES!! :(

Larry,
You must be right-handed, I have a scar exactly like that, only on my right hand! I was working with a razor blade and the next thing I know, it is buried in "that" slice. I didn't get stitches though, I never showed it to "the missus" until a couple of days later! I just taped it down pretty good with a band-aid and tried not to bump anything! It stopped "weeping" sometime later the next day.

Larry: Heal up soon!
I have to laugh as I sit here looking at your stitches, comparing them to when I cut my finger last November. Sorry, but, you're not even in my league as far as injuries go (which is a GOOD thing). If you don't need multiple tendon repair surgery and nerve reattachment, and the accompanying 4 months of daily rehab(like I did) consider yourself lucky. And, yes, I will post a pic of my (now healed) finger on my website when I update it next. Actually, I think I'll need two pictures to show the whole scar....
Knifemaking is a very dangerous occupation. Your post is a good reminder that, working by ourselves in our shops, we all need to think about having a phone on our person with 911 programmed into speed dial, because that might make the difference.

One interesting fact I learned about stitches in fingertips is that is where the nerve ending are and NO amount of anesthetic takes away the pain! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Larry, What do you mean ,your taking the rest of the day off to reflect? Stop bieng such a baby! and what is that, hospital stitches ?WUSSEY, I use dental floss and a sewing needle and sew myself up and keep going!Besides that looks like a paper cut.A little super glue woulda fixed that.If your gonna be a bear , be a Grizzly!
