I just purchased a Benchmade 942BT2. On the side of the blade it says First Production 0144/1000.Could someone please explain what this means and does this make it a more desirable knife to own?

Thanks

PS Next knife either the Spydie Tim Wegner Or BM 710.

Welcome to the Forums.

I would defer to some of our resident experts, but it would appear to me that there was a "First Production Run" of 1000 pieces and that those pieces were sequentially serial numbered; yours being number 144 out of a total of 1000.

My experience is that serialized FPR knives do, eventually, command a slightly higher resale value if they are in collector, (n.i.b.), condition and the buyer appreciates these facts.

Nimrod is correct. BM also releases knives marked "pre-production" and are also numbered. My understanding is that there 'may' be minor changes between a 'pre-production' knife and the regular production knives, but have not been told that by BM. I have noticed these runs are sometimes 500 and sometimes 1000. Some of the BM 690BT2(black blade) knives were both numbered and dated! Regards, Mike
