Please give me your opinions on a ESEE 5: plain or serrated edge?

I´m about to buy a black ESEE 5 at TKC, but would like to know which is more useful, the plain or the serrated edge. Thanks for your comments.

IMO a sharp plain edge can do anything a serrated blade can do, plus it can slice....I personally would never buy a blade with serrations.

Do you have the ability to sharpen serrations? If the answer is no, I wouldn't buy a serrated knife. YMMV though.

not a fan of serrations - but the ESEE ones aren't bad -- and they're easy to sharpen.

I've heard a set of properly-designed serrations can actually slice better than a plain edge and stay sharper much longer, due to a larger cutting area. If you're going to be batoning with it though, I would not recommend the serrations.

I prefer the plain edge but esee serations are simple to sharpen no need for a special stone or anything just sharpen like normal.

I think serrations have their place. I find it easier to push cut heavy duty plastic and a few other mediums with serrated blades. In the end I guess it's a mater of preference.

It's really up to what you will be cutting with the 5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but serrations were originally designed to cut straps, belts, rope, and the like. In an emergency situation, some serrations are faster at cutting. If your 5 will be stowed away for emergencies, like in for a car crash, downed aircraft, or boating, then they could be very handy.
If instead you will be camping, cutting wood, batoning, and the like, then maybe get the straight edge. I'm a backpacker, and never really needed serrations for my camping tasks.

Although I have some knives with partially serrated edges I am not a fan of them and would much prefer a plain edge on my knives.

I don't mind the ones on my Esee 3 and 6 I have. They haven't interfered with anything and as previous posters have stated , they are easy to sharpen as they have flats between the serrations. No other serrations I've come across have this feature , and it allows the use of a flat sharpening device.

Thank you all for your insight, I think plain edge is best for an overall use and so I´m gonna buy accordingly.
