Please help an idiot..with Avatar..

I am so freaking sorry about this...I know I am missing something everybody else with a paying membership has figured out...but crap..I can post pictures with no prob on threads..and now I want to add an avatar pic...but the same type image links I've used previously from photobucket, are showing as an "Invalid File" when attempting to use the Image link as an avatar under the Custom avatar portion of settings; I've tried every variation from the links provided at photobucket..

Can you help an idiot, or am I just screwed...?
 
Did you make sure the picture you are trying to use is not over the maximum size? It has to be less than 120 by 120 pixels or 9.8 KB.

The "no avatar" box is checked in my prefs and I can't uncheck it in order to add one. I've tried to reset fields, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Paid memberships = avatar.
 
Ah. Good thing I'm at work and didn't waste all my free time trying to figure this out! Thanks!
