Hi

A few of you may have read my posts by now and gathered I have the bug real bad...

Finally after sifting through the forums I have found 2 folders I would like to add to my small but growing collection:

http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=6764

http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=7577&strVarSel=&strCompare=

4 Questions:

Do these 2 get a general  from everyone

Do the prices seem reasonable (I am from UK so the price looks great to me:D )

Will UK customs consficate them (I do not know what things like assisted opening and auto mean:confused: )

Do any sites offer sheaths that would fit the above nylon or leather not really worried which

I really liked the below but can get two for that price and always get that one later :D

Thanks
Gav

Both will probably get a general thumbs up from forum members. However, i believe both are illegal in the UK. I do believe anything with a locking blade that is longer than 3 inches is not legal for carry. An auto is essentially a switchblade. The blade will atomatically open when you apply pressure to a button or switch on the handle. An assisted opener requires the blade to be partially, manually opened, before the spring assist takes over and opens it like an auto.

Mirror-Saw is certain right about one thing: these knives get the thumb's up from me.

I have them both and they are both good performers. They are rather large, though...

They both get  from me. Although they both would be considered illegal in your neck of the woods, as they are locking folders. I have no idea about getting them into the country, though there are folks here who might be willing to tell you how to work it out.

Knifeworks.com is fairly good on prices, Not the best, but not the worst, either. They have pretty good customer service, but you may want to do a search in the Good, Bad, Ugly forum to make sure.

The Kershaw Bump is an assisted opener, meaning that a mechanism takes over after a partial opening, and propels the blade open completely with a pretty good amount of force. The Rukus doesn't have this capability, but with a quick wrist flick, or just a pull of the lock (with a gravity assist), it will be open just as quickly as the Bump.

The Skirmish would be my choice, above both of the others, but that's just my opinion, and I prefer Titanium Framelocks to most anything else.

I'd like to hear from other UK dwellers, how they manage to collect things sharp and shiny.

Good luck,
Daniel

The Skirmish is HUGE. You may want to look at a mini-Skirmish too. Just cuz they have mini in the name doesn't mean they are small either.

Doh, I was thinking of the Rukus but the same advice goes for the Skirmish too.

Ok Uk knife nut in da house ;)

Firstly you can legally buy and import any of those knives without problem. You cannot import auto's or balisongs (butterfly knives) as these are illegal.

As for carry that is a different matter as the previous posters said lock knives are considered fixed blades and not legal for carry under UK law. Also the blade should be less than 3". :grumpy:

A little warning about importing from the US , as I have been stung a few times is the VAT and import duty you will pay on entry to the UK can be considerable. What seems like a good conversion from $ to £ is not necessarily a good one!

Try a UK based seller before going down the import route as it is generally easier and quicker. My favourite supplier is heinne who carry a lot of Benchmades and Kershaws. www.heinnie.com

I would also look into a smaller non locking slipjoint if you plan on carrying. Take a look at Spydercos UKPK (UK Pen Knife). It's made with UK knife laws in mind and made well from what i hear.
