please help! buck strider sbmf crisis

I got a new (to me) buck 889 a couple days ago and am curious. Do all 889s have such late lockup? The lockbar is a little over 3/4 all the way to the right. It's in pretty good shape other than that, I really want to use this knife but don't want it to end up being a liability. Please help!! Is this thing way used? Or is it the way they are?

I don't know that knife, but 3/4? I wouldn't sweat that at all on most any knife.

If you are uncomfortable with the lock up, it can always be sent in to Buck. You might ask over in the Buck S/F. I know there are guys there with these knives, and some are probably n.i.b, so it might be a good reference
