Please help compare BK-5 to BK-9

Yes, I know... Odd!
I have a 5 now, and love it. It handles all my camp chores, including occasional (light) chopping and wood prep. Most importantly, it feels so good in hand!

But I keep staring at the BK9... :)

So the question is - in what areas does the BK-9 excel as compared to the 5? What about 5 vs 9?

The background is I am deciding whether to get another 5 for backup (during the kabar sale, with a bk4 thrown in for free!), or spend the money on a bk9.

So:
Two knives better than one...
Or the King will always be the King?

Thanks

Get the 5&4 for the deal but.....definately at some point get a 9. Nothing and I mean nothing compares to a 9

This. The BK4 clinched that deal for me. The 9 can wait to NOT be Not had.

I've got both. I love both, however I feel that they are suitable for completely different tasks. I use my 9 mostly for wood processing, chopping, batoning, splitting, shaving, etc.. Except for shaving, the 5 really isn't suited for any of those tasks. The 5 is for shaving, slicing, etc.. I typically use my 5 around the house more. Got a nice roast that needs slicing, thanksgiving turkey?

Thanks for the opinion.
I just bought lots of the becker micarta from Kabar, so my budget is now limited to about $100. That makes BK 4,5 from kabar, or BK9 from somewhere else (BF sponsor, of course!).
Gonna search my couches for more change, to afford the bk9 from Kabar...

With a 4 and a 5 I don't think I could ever need another knife. Of course I would still want a 9.

Thanks all!
Just got the bk9. Add the sheath (from 710!), bk-5 and bk-24 scales, and I had $0.37 becker cents left over.

And Protourist - your pic almost had me on the 4... but cheaper for me to long for the 4 rather than the 9 :D

These reasons are all about allocation of funds, not the knives.
The 9 is a brilliant chopper/splitter for the weight, jobs that the 5 does not excel at in comparison.
I'd rather have a 9 than a 4, and rather have a 21 than a 4. I think the 21 takes the 9's advantages over the 5 to the next level, but it leaves behind the speed and handiness of the 5, making it part of a system rather than a one-knife solution.

Daizee,

Did you mean "...but it leaves behind the speed and handiness of the 9?"
If so, then I totally agree with your approach... except that means I could get by with a 21 and my 15, and bypass my beloved 5 altogether. Not an option!

Anyway, allocation of funds decision never last long. I seem to end up with 'all of the above!'

So now you need a 21...

That too. The 5 is faster and handier than the 9. Could you go: BK21, BK-5, small-knife?
