I purchased a Knife on a visit to Bar Harbor, Maine. The town has a lot of upscale shoppes (you pay a lot for the extra "p" and "e" in that word).

Anyway, whaddaya know, I found a store that sold knives. Mostly cheaper stuff, but a few gems, such as Seki-cut little blue folders that the owner said he could't sell and was willing to get rid of at his cost.

He also had a fixed-blad damscus knife W/moded leather sheath, both marked "G. Peterson Salina UT USA" surrounding A cursive "GP".

Damascus blade, bolsters look like nickel sulver. Handle looks like stag, but I am not sure if that is real. Easily sharpened to a razor's edge. Anyway, the shop owner let it go for a song--I had the impression that most visitors to his place are not interested in that sort of thing, and he was trying to clear out any interesting knives.

I would like to get in touch with Mr. Peterson, and have googled and searched ina few different ways. Anyone on these forums that can put me in touch with him, I'd appreciate it. I assure you, that I have nothing but good to say about this knife, and just want to see what else he might have going.

Thanks.

There's a maker out of the same area, I think your knife may have been made by a family memberof his:

Chris Peterson
Box 143
W.Rockyford
Salina, Ut

1 (801) 529 7194

He also sells a lot through Ebay, so check there.

The Peterson family out of Salina, UT makes some great knives. I have two friends here in Utah with some of his blades. One friend has a Persian Fighter and the other has at least 2 hunters and 3 damascus blade blanks. Everything that I've seen from them is Quality. :D

Do you happen to have pics of this knife? Would love to see it if possible. :)

I am gonna try and take some pics so I can post them. It really is a great little knife. the only problem is a little discoloration on the damscus blade that may be the start of rust. It was there when I got it (look guys, not everybody gets to live in a dry climate like UT--count your blessings). I don't really know what to do about that other than making sure that it does not get worse by keeping a very light layer of oil on the blade.

The blade is 3.3 inches long, and kind of a drop point. Stylized "sawteeth" on the back of the blade toward the handle. I'm not sure exactly what shape to call it. But it fits perfectly in my hand. It would make a great fishing knife.

I have been trying to call the number provided above, with no success. I guess that the primary reason I wnated to talk to them was to see what else they have available. (I dislike ebay, so that's out.) I am also interested in hearing about how the knife ended up in a shop that clearly does not cater to such a crowd. It's really a shame in general. I'm not too sorry because I feel quite lucky to have gotten it at such a price.

The Phone number is wrong, don't know why I didn't notice it before. I used to live 20 minutes from Salina. Doh! :o The correct number for Chris Peterson is: (435) 529-7194. Salt Lake and Utah Countys have the old 801 area code, just about everywere else its 435. LOL

If you go to www.dexonline.com and do a search for Peterson in Salina Utah, you will get a pretty long list. The exact Peterson that made your knife is probably in there somewhere.

If you can get pics, email them to me and I'll post them for you. :) Would ove to see your knife. BTW those SawTeeth looking marks are a trade make of Mr. Peterson. Most if not all of the knives by him that I've seen have those grooves.

I will try to get the pics, but it might take a while. I just had a long conversation with Chris Peterson--he did make the knife--the G on the sheath was because that was maed by his wife. Thank you for putting me in touch with him. And by the way, I ordered another knife from him. I hope to meet him in person sometime--it sounds like we have a lot in common.

Thanks again.

Glad you were able to get in touch with Chris. From what I've heared from friends, he is a great guy. And his wife does wonderfull sheaths. :) Did you find out if he has a web site? And what knife did you order? No rush on the pics, just send them when ever. Just let me know that they are Peterson knife pics or that you hail from BFC so I don't accidentaly delete the email as spam.

Have a good one,

I understand. I just have to get a new digitasl camera so that this will wortk, but I'm planning on it anyway.

Chris says that he just has one basic model--and varies by size, handle material, etc. My current one is about 3.2 " amd for walking around in the wood. I usually like something a little bigger. So I asked for the same thing 5-6 " blade, with a wood handle, which I usually prefer. By the way, he says that the handle on my knife is cone--made to look like stag. Like I say, I don't know the difference, since the handle materials on most of my knives are the usual artificial materials or wood.

Anyway, his one basic model is good enough. VERY ergonomic--I would not have bought it otherwise. Nice damascus--but dfinately NOT stainless. I have seen many production knives--non-damascus--that sellfor more than he charges. And I would not call this an art knife--Although I think it is beautiful. I would not have ordered another knife if the one that I own couldn't take it. GREAT little camp knife--and now I'll have a great medium-sized camp knife as well. And custom to boot. Is this a great time for someone who likes knives or what??????

Thanks again
