i was helping a buddie move his grandpas garage around awhile back and i came accross a ka-bar knife in return for helping my buddie move stuff around he let me keep it i didnt think much about it till i got bored and i really started looking at it and looking at other's online i cant find any that are like it most of the ones i find are either really light handle or black handle the one i have is a wood with a really dark finish. though i did read something about how they wrapped the leather so tight that some people think the handle is wood. no numbers on it i looked at ka-bars website couldnt find any numbers on the knife so i couldnt find anything out i emaild them today with pictures. all it has on it is U.S. ARMY on one side and KA-BAR olean, N.Y. on the other. id say about 9-12" blade the blade goes from my wrist to the tip of my middle finger
im trying to figure out the history of it and how much it could be worth if anything im guessing it was my buddies grandpas old army knife

i tried to post the pictures i have of it but sense im new to this site it wont let me i can email you the pictures if you are serious about helping me thank you

Hi,

You could do what I did and post the photos to Flickr and link to them from here. The top of the page will have a share button, click on it and select "BBcode" and then copy and paste it in this thread.

Good Luck, -John

You don't have to. It's a new model Ka-Bar of recent manufacture. Worth is not a factor with this knife IMO, and you are not allowed to ask those questions without a Gold membership to support this site.

Regards,
Ron

im not trying to sell it on here i was just curious on what year it was made what kind of background it had and how much it could be worth i read the rules said nothing that i could find about asking what the price is on an item

i didnt see that before im sorry i was just curious about the knife i got i guess ill wait for ka-bar to email me back about it sense no one here as any good info about it

No big deal to me.

...........Except for the part where you are not reading. Maybe it should be phrased in the form of a question;

-What kind of knife do you imagine it is?
-How much do you think it is worth?
-How many wars has this knife been in?
-When was this knife designed?

I swear, you have answers, you are simply ignoring them. It is a currently cataloged Ka-Bar knife. You could buy a brand new one now. Or you could use the one you have. Personally I hate the new serrations (#1218, #5018) on the Classic Ka-Bar design (#1217) All still current catalog knives.

Try this to read up your own answer.

That is a Modern Ka-Bar knife. You can tell by the fact that it has an Epoxy Powder coating and serrations. Not sure when that coating came out on this knife or the serrations, but it's with in the last 20 years or less. It has a 7" blade and is about 12" in over all length.

The handle is stacked leather. The leather is glued/epoxied then compressed in a vice then attached to the tang and polished. With use they can and do darken.

According to Tomar's Kabars (A bladeforums dealer) you have a model #1219. If you go to his website, look at the menu at the top, in there they have a link for Army Ka-bars. The #1219 is the first one on that page. The handle in the picture will be a light tan/oak color. Some are light like that one and some are darker. I bought a 3/4 USMC Ka-Bar back in 2000 and it had a darker handle then the one pictured on Tomar's site. After I used it for a while, it got even darker.

That website will give you a good idea of what a Brand New in Box Army Ka-Bar goes for. Here it is on Kabar's Web site: http://www.kabar.com/knives/detail/27

Leather, even the same part number from the same tannery can come out slightly different colors. I work with brown leather a lot and buy it by the side. Some brown hides will be slightly lighter or darker then each other. This applies to all leather. If you look at the picture on Ka-bar's website you'll notice that some pieces of leather that make the handle are lighter and some are darker. Also as I said earlier leather darkens from use. Oils and sweat from your hands darken it, add exposure to sun light from use or sitting in a window and that will speed up the process.

I hope all this information helps and that you enjoy your "new" Ka-Bar. :)
