Please help identify this keris

Fed is probably the guy you want, Bill. I haven't done keris in about 10 years, and was lousy at identifying them even then.

My guess on the externals would be one of the more culturally Hindu areas like Madura or Bali because of the anthropomorphic hilt (ulu? - I don't remember the common terminology). No idea re: blade. One of the Vikingsworders mentioned that blades often were traded from island to island (so were fittings, IIRC).

Sounds as if you got your money's worth from the scabbard and sheathe alone. If the blade can be replaced with another in better shape, or can be otherwise salvaged without destroying the historical value, which sounds possible but what do I know.

yOu might as well have asked me if the hope diamond had a pretty sparkle...

I am a gun guy and I only like KHUKURIS. Once with khukuris, what further need for research?

Definitely older than the fittings. Kulit Semangka pamor, which translates as "Melon Skin" I have a tombak (wavy keris spearhead) with the same pattern, 9waves. also very corroded from etching at yearly ceremonies. Nice piece.

Bill Marsh, email sent Re: the falcata. Call me puh-leeeeze!
Thanks!
