This knife has serial #03088. It is a folding knife with a 3" locking blade and stage grips. The blade reads "Schrade 1787 Wostenholm Sheffield England I-XL" Not quite in that order but that is all the information the blade. One end of the handle is stamped with some marks "SW(some symbol almost like a person's head)0". Can anyone help me identify what I have here and what it may be worth? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I measure the handle at 4" even. That is good information as I have wondered for some time the history of this knife. It is very nice looking and I think I will continue to keep it on my desk as my letter opener and for misc. chores.

It should be noted that Schrade only owned IXL for a few years4 or 6 ( I forget ) so actually they are relatively in small number compared with other Schrades. I believe they were some of the best knives Schrade made however there were many difficulties, which resulted in this marriage causing it to end rather quickly. Please check the archives and you should find some reference to these threads. One of my favorites was when all the big wheel americans came over to inspect the plant and found the employees playing soccer in the plant at 2:30 in the afternoon. When they asked why that was going on supposidly the new owners were advised by the indignant foreman that it was tradition as he walked walked away. Ah the English they knew we americans were all crazy when we started throwing perfectly good tea into Boston harbor. However the knives are quite nice. LT PS the IXL with Schrade tang is a nice piece of history.
