I went to a local auction this afternoon and purchased some filet knives. I am trying to find out if this is a McGinnis custom or what it is. I have looked at a lot of knives and not seen this same markings on any other knives. Please help identify what it is and possible value. The sheath is leather and on the back of the belt strap it says McGinnis. Thanks in advance for your time.

Pics don't work :(

Sure, why not...

I'll post them up for you :)

A quick Google search for "MCGINNIS KNIVES" brought up a web site. Why don't you contact them and ask. Most knife makers are pretty willing to talk about their knives, even if it is not something they currently make.

Thanks, I may try that, I just noticed that the logo-name on my knife did not match the ones on their website and there is 2 different people named McGinnis that make knives.

I have e-mailed both of the known McGinnis knife makers and did receive a response from Gerry McGinnis that it was not a knife he had made. Hope to hear back from Tom McGinnis, but in the meantime if anyone has any other information it would be great.

I have received no response from Tom McGinnis, anyone have any other ideas on how to identify for certain the maker?

Look on Ebay at the Damascus Skinners.
They are made in Pakistan.

The reason I bring this up is many of them use the same dyed wood handles, and have the exact same tooling on the sheaths.

Hopefully you will find a better answer than mine...

Thanks. I seen what you are referring to on eBay, none of them say McGinnis, I am still hopeful that it is something nicer than made in Pakistan. Gerry McGinnis believes it is Tom McGinnis from the Ozark Knife Makers. I have e-mailed with still no response.

If you do get an answer or find anything new on the maker, I for one would love to hear about it.
It could be the importer that is marking them IF that is a Pakistan knife.

I'm really too new to this to be of any help. (It could also be that "Lost knife of the Ages")

I received the following response from Ozark Knife Makers.
"Tom saw the knife picture. Here is the information you wanted . It is a fillet knife . The handle material is diamond wood , the steel for the knife is S-7. Your knife was made by Tom McGinnis."

Thanks to those that looked. I am happy to have a custom knife from Tom McGinnis at the Ozark Knife Makers.
