Hello...

I was wondering if anyone could place an approximate age on these Randall's. I am a new Randall collector. I inherited the bottom one from my father, and I bought the top one from my brother. Also, as a novice I wanted to clarify the model and options on these knives. It is interesting that one blade is a tiny bit shorter than the other, but they seem to be the same model more or less. And, is the black web sheath one that is offered on a new Randall? It's not leather and it doesn't seem like it would be original to the knife. Looks as though someone just sewed the Randall patch onto it. That is the sheath that came with the knife I bought from my brother.
Thanks in advance!

They're both new(er) knives. The Model #1 with the leather sheath was made after 1994...the Model #16-7 with Blackhawk sheath was made sometime after 1998 if the sheath is original to the knife...

Hope that helps

Thank you, sir. That is helpful. So, to clarify - it is possible that the BlackHawk sheath WAS ordered with the knife? And what are the differences between the blade of a #16 and a #1? Thanks...

Yes, as of a few years ago Blackhawk was the authorized sheath maker of nylon sheaths for RMK, and had been since sometime in 1998...although I don't know if they still are...

The #16-7 "Special Fighter" has a full width (exposed) tang running thru the channeled Micarta handle, whereas the Model #1 does not...

Cool knives, two of my favorites, they should serve you well

Yes,

The larger knife is the Model #14 "Attack" knife with the standard 7.5" blade, and the smaller knife is a modified Model #5 "Camp & Trail Knife" with a 5" blade...

The smaller knife is the oldest of the lot, and likely the most valuable. It's done up in a special configuration with sawteeth, double hilt, and 'commando' style handle...

The configuration is called the 'Air Crew and Survival' knife if I remember correctly. Originally based on the Model #5-5, some years back the base platform was replaced in favor of using the modern 'Combat Companion' non-catalog model...

That one I'd be seriously interested in making you a fair offer for, if you should ever decide to let it go...

You can pick up more information about Randall Made knives at their website, http://www.randallknives.com/

Hope that helps,

Shel

Again, very helpful information. I appreciate it. If I decide to sell, you will be first on the list. For now I'll hold onto it, but you never know... the unexpected has been known to happen!
