I just bought this spyderco police model for a good price today 20$, but the more I look at it and compare to my other, im starting to second guess that it might be a knock off. the construction of it is very solid and seems legit. the parts of the knife that are throwing me off are the clip, the phillip screws, and there is no spider logo anywhere. I have researched quite a bit and still have no concrete answer. are they any spyderco experts out there that would help me authenticate this knife. thanks...

Nothing to worry about. Just an older example of the police.

Phillips head clip screws were standard for twenty-five years or so, and the bug logo was added relatively recently as well. The G2 steel stamp dates it to 1992-1994. I suspect but cannot prove that the black finish was aftermarket. My black Police is older (no steel stamp) and is shiny. The ones I've seen with aftermarket coating done by J.F. Jensen had the non-reflective finish like that.

That looks like a legit earlier POLICE Model. All black versions were produced by Spyderco for a short while, the coatings were not successful and the project was abandoned. Aftermarket coatings were applied by some Spyderco dealers, John Jensen being the most famous, but others exist.

I haven't seen any knock-off Police Models but they may be out there.

Thanks guys. I feel allot better about it. Those are some nice looking police models. I think I'll try to reblacken mine and it'll will be one that I'll keep in my collection... thanks again

I'd agree, the Police looks genuine. OTOH, the stainless Delica with the tattooed blade...
