Please help me bring back the shine of my A2!

I recently inherited a knife made from A2. The blade, however, is covered by a dark, splotchy patina that I don't really like. Some of the spots are black, while others are some variation between yellowish red and purplish blue. Just how does one go about getting A2 to take a shine after this damage without causing more damage to the blade? Should I Just learn to live with it? I believe that the knife may have been stored in its sheath, which may have caused some of the oils to penetrate the steel, but how should I make the knife shine again? Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony

Without knowing what kind of knife it is, blade length, finish, etc. Whether it is a factory blade, or custom. I would say, take it to a knifemaker, and have them do it. Buffing is THE most hazardous part of knifemaking, and I hesitate to recommend you doing that.
